Introduction About SOMELIN 3MG TABLET

SOMELIN 3MG TABLET contains Melatonin which belongs to the group of medicines called Hormones. It is used to manage jetlag in adults. Jet-lag can be recognized by sleep disturbances, daytime tiredness, fatigue, mild mental impairment, irritability and digestive system disturbances experienced after flying.           

Avoid smoking as it may reduce the effect of this medicine and alcohol consumption while taking SOMELIN 3MG TABLET as it can impair sleep and potentially worsen certain symptoms of jetlag (Ex. headache, morning fatigue and concentration).            

SOMELIN 3MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver or kidney function, epilepsy, autoimmune disease (where the body is attacked by its own immune system), diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance. Consult your doctor before taking it.     

SOMELIN 3MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women and women of childbearing potential must use effective contraception. SOMELIN 3MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.     

SOMELIN 3MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. SOMELIN 3MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before taking it.

SOMELIN 3MG TABLET helps to restore the normal day-and-night rhythm by synchronizing the body’s biological day-and-night rhythm as disturbances in biological rhythm may cause sleep disturbances, daytime tiredness, fatigue, mild mental impairment, irritability and other symptoms. Thus SOMELIN 3MG TABLET helps to restore the normal day-and-night rhythm and reduce the symptoms.

How to use SOMELIN 3MG TABLET

Take SOMELIN 3MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow the whole medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of the medicine depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Side Effects Of SOMELIN 3MG TABLET

  • headache
  • drowsiness

Uncommon

  • irritability, nervousness, restlessness, abnormal dreams, anxiety
  • dizziness
  • high blood pressure

How To Manage Side Effects

Dizziness Or Drowsiness

Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any machines if you feel drowsiness. Avoid alcohol consumption as it aggravates drowsiness. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Dry Mouth

Sip water regularly and other sugar free liquids. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can make your mouth dry, use mouthwash that is used only for dry mouth. Limit your caffeine intake. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Headache

Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Skin rash Or Itching

Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin further. Do not rub or scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when going outdoor. Regularly use moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. If the symptom still persists, consult your doctor.

Stomach Pain

Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, inform your doctor.

A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

Before taking SOMELIN 3MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of following medicines:

  • fluvoxamine (used to manage of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • psoralens (used for managing skin disorders like psoriasis)
  • cimetidine (used to manage stomach problems such as ulcers)
  • estrogens (used as contraceptives or hormone replacement preparations)
  • quinolones, rifampicin (used to manage bacterial infections)
  • carbamazepine (used to manage epilepsy)
  • benzodiazepines and non-benzodiazepine hypnotics (medicines that induce sleep, Ex. midazolam, temazepam, zaleplon, zolpidem and zopiclone)
  • warfarin (used to manage or manage blood clots)

B. Drug-Food Interactions:

Food should not be consumed 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking SOMELIN 3MG TABLET.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of SOMELIN 3MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage includes drowsiness, headache, dizziness and nausea.
