Gently insert the catheter into the patient's airway (e.g., tracheostomy tube or oral airway) to the desired depth without applying suction. Apply suction by covering the thumb control port. Withdraw the catheter slowly, rolling it between the fingers to remove secretions. Suction should not be applied for more than 10-15 seconds at a time. Allow the patient to breathe between suction passes. After use, flush the catheter and tubing with sterile water and dispose of the single-use catheter according to medical waste protocols.
