VOKANAMET 50/1000MG TABLET is a combination of Canagliflozin and Metformin, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetic agents. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to control blood sugar levels and also helps manage heart disease in adults with type II diabetes mellitus when it cannot be controlled by metformin alone or together with other diabetes medicines.
Type II diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by abnormally high levels of glucose in the blood. It is caused by inadequate production of a hormone called insulin (produced by the pancreas to metabolize glucose) in the body or by inadequate sensitivity of body cells to the actions of insulin.

As a result, more glucose is excreted in urine, which helps lower blood glucose levels in the body. Metformin works by decreasing the production of glucose in the liver, decreasing the intestinal absorption of glucose, increasing insulin sensitivity, and allowing better glucose uptake and utilization by the body.
How to use VOKANAMET 50/1000MG TABLET
Take VOKANAMET 50/1000MG TABLET, preferably with meals or as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition. Do not stop taking VOKANAMET 50/1000MG TABLET unless your doctor advises you to stop.
Side Effects Of VOKANAMET 50/1000MG TABLET
Common
- signs of low blood glucose levels are blurred vision, tingling lips, trembling, sweating, looking pale, a change in mood, or feeling anxious or confused
- signs of a severe infection of the urinary tract, such as fever and/or chills, a burning sensation while urinating, and pain in your back or side
- vaginal yeast infection
- rash or redness of the penis or foreskin (yeast infection)
- changes in urination (including urinating more frequently or in larger amounts, urgent need to urinate, need to urinate at night)
- constipation
- feeling thirsty and nausea
Uncommon
- signs of dehydration are feeling light-headed or dizzy, feeling dizzy or faint when you stand up, having a very dry or sticky mouth, feeling very thirsty, feeling very weak or tired, passing little or no urine, and having a fast heartbeat
- rashes, hives, redness, itching, and raised bumps, oozing fluid, or blisters
- bone fracture

- symptoms of lactic acidosis include vomiting, stomach aches, muscle cramps, a general feeling of not being well with severe tiredness, difficulty breathing, reduced body temperature, and a slow heartbeat
- signs and symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis such as rapid weight loss, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, excessive thirst, fast and deep breathing, confusion, unusual sleepiness or tiredness, a sweet smell to your breath, a sweet or metallic taste in your mouth, or a different odour to your urine or sweat
- signs and symptoms of necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum or Fournier’s gangrene include pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling of the genitals or the area between the genitals and the anus with fever or feeling generally unwell
- sign of an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat that may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing
How To Manage Side Effects

Constipation
Include fiber-rich foods in your diet, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain cereals, and drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly and stay active. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.

Diarrhea
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices, to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Contact your doctor if your diarrhea does not improve.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

Dry Mouth
Dry mouth can be managed by chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free hard candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Sip water at regular intervals of time. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can be drying. Consult your doctor if the dry mouth gets worse.

Hypoglycemia
Have foods rich in sugars, such as fruit juices, glucose drinks, candies, honey, or biscuits. Check your blood sugar after 10 minutes. If you have not reached your optimum level, take another sugary snack or drink and check your blood sugar levels once again. Contact your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition.

Nausea And Vomiting
Take VOKANAMET 50/1000MG TABLET with a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea and vomiting do not improve.

Skin rash Or Itching
Avoid hot baths because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if your rashes worsen.

Stomach Pain
Rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Do not self-manage on your own, consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve on its own.

Before taking VOKANAMET 50/1000MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines, such as:
- insulin or a sulphonylurea Ex. glimepiride or glipizide (other medicines used to manage diabetes mellitus)
- medicines that increase urine production (diuretics) Ex. furosemide
- John's wort (an herbal medicine used to manage depression)
- carbamazepine, phenytoin, or phenobarbital (medicines used to manage seizures)
- lithium (a medicine used to manage bipolar disorder)
- efavirenz or ritonavir (medicines used to manage HIV infection)
- rifampicin (an antibiotic used to manage tuberculosis)
- cholestyramine (a medicine used to manage cholesterol levels in the blood)
- digoxin or digitoxin (medicines used for managing certain heart problems)
- dabigatran (a medicine used in the management of blood clots)
- medicines that contain alcohol
