INTRODUCTION

SEROCIT 467MG contains Tri-sodium citrate which belongs to the group of medicines called Anticoagulants. It is used for anticoagulation of whole blood as a part of an automated apheresis procedure which is a process of collecting platelets and other components of blood using a cell separator from the donor to which an anticoagulant is added to delay the process of clotting in the collected or donated blood.

SEROCIT 467MG is not recommended to be directly infused to the donor. It is not recommended for use in patients who are allergic to sodium citrate. It should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver or renal function, low body temperature, and low blood calcium levels. SEROCIT 467MG should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Also, it should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). The most common side effect that can occur with the use of SEROCIT 467MG is mild pseudohyponatremia (transient decrease in blood sodium levels) which is generally associated with signs such as nausea, vomiting, headache, and confusion. Inform your doctor if you experience any unusual effects.

USES OF SEROCIT 467MG

  • Used for anticoagulation of whole blood as part of an automated apheresis (blood donation) procedure

HOW SEROCIT 467MG WORKS

SEROCIT 467MG works by binding to the free calcium ion present in the blood which is a necessary co-factor/component required for the clotting process, thus results in preventing the clotting process of collected or donated blood (anti-coagulation process).

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

SEROCIT 467MG will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse following the apheresis device operator's manual. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
