Introduction About RENIVA 100 TABLET

RENIVA 100 TABLET contains Remogliflozin which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-diabetic agents. RENIVA 100 TABLET is used to manage type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to provide adequate glycaemic control in adult patients.

RENIVA 100 TABLET is also used as a combination therapy with metformin, when both metformin therapy and diet & exercise are inadequate provide glycaemic control in affected individuals.

RENIVA 100 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Remogliflozin. It is also not recommended for use in patients with liver problems (such as moderate to severe liver impairment), and/or kidney problems (such as moderate to severe renal impairment).

How RENIVA 100 TABLET Works

RENIVA 100 TABLET helps in reducing blood glucose by increasing the excretion of glucose via urine. It does so by acting on certain proteins in the body which are responsible for the reabsorption of glucose from the kidney. RENIVA 100 TABLET inhibits the action of these proteins hence, stopping the reabsorption of glucose and increasing urinary glucose excretion thus helps to manage type 2 diabetes in affected individuals.

How to use RENIVA 100 TABLET

Take RENIVA 100 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, health condition, and body weight.

Side Effects Of RENIVA 100 TABLET

Serious

Stop taking RENIVA 100 TABLET and inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • signs of diabetic ketoacidosis such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, excessive thirst, fast and deep breathing, confusion, unusual sleepiness or tiredness, fruity smelling breath, a sweet or metallic taste in mouth, a different odour in urine or sweat, rapid weight loss
  • signs of severe urinary tract infections such as fever, chills, burning sensation when passing urine, pain in back or sides, and/or blood in urine
  • signs of Fournier’s Gangrene such as fever, pain and swelling in the genitals or anal area, unpleasant odour coming from the affected skin tissue, crackling sound when touching the affected area, and/or dehydration
  • signs of dehydration such as very dry, sticky mouth, feeling very thirsty, passing little or no urine, feeling very sleepy or tired, and/or fast heartbeat

Common

  • constipation

  • viral upper respiratory tract infection
  • passing little or no urine
  • signs of low blood sugar levels such as sweating, feeling tired, dizziness, and/or feeling shaky

Uncommon

  • anaemia
  • vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • eye pain, increased flow of tears
  • stomach pain, stomach discomfort, inflammation of the lining of the stomach, higher levels of gastric acid (heartburn)
  • gastroesophageal reflux (stomach contents move backwards towards the mouth)
  • inflammation of the mouth
  • increases in creatinine (changes in frequency of urination, itching, swelling, fatigue)
  • irregular heartbeats
  • decreased appetite
  • decreased weight
  • build-up of lactate in the body (muscle ache, burning sensation, rapid breathing)
  • excessive fluid consumption as a result of thirst
  • inflammation or pain of joint, back pain, inflammation and swelling of the cartilage of the chest wall, musculoskeletal pain
  • dizziness
  • reduced sense of touch
  • anxiety
  • lack of sleep
  • painful or difficult urination, frequent daytime urination, production of abnormally large volumes of urine
  • inflammation of the glans (rounded head of the penis), posthitis (inflammation of the foreskin)
  • oropharyngeal pain (persistent mouth pain), seasonal allergies
  • rash, skin lesion, red itchy welts
  • high blood pressure

How To Manage Side Effects

Constipation

Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Ask for your doctor’s advice if constipation does not improve.

Diarrhea

Drink a lot of fluids, such as water, fruit juice, or squash to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine by yourself without consulting your doctor. Ask for your doctor’s advice if diarrhea does not improve.

Headache

If RENIVA 100 TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking RENIVA 100 TABLET. If it lasts more than a week or severe, inform your doctor.

RENIVA 100 TABLET is not recommended for use during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraceptive measures during management with RENIVA 100 TABLET. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.  

Breastfeeding

RENIVA 100 TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women since it is not known whether the medicine may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Driving and Using Machines

Use with Caution

Do not drive or operate machines if you experience shaking, sweating, change in vision and/or feel dizzy after taking RENIVA 100 TABLET.

Alcohol

Consult your doctor

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking RENIVA 100 TABLET since it may increase risk of diabetic ketoacidosis.

Kidney

Contraindicated

RENIVA 100 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from kidney problems such as moderate to severe renal impairment. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Liver

Interactions

A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

Before taking RENIVA 100 TABLET, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • ketoconazole (used to manage fungal infections)
  • oral contraceptives (used to manage pregnancy) Ex. estradiol, norethindrone
  • medicines used to manage high blood pressure (Ex. ramipril, rosuvastatin, verapamil)
  • other blood glucose lowering drugs (Ex. sulphonylureas, metformin, insulin)
  • bupropion (used to manage depression)
  • medicines used to remove water from body (diuretics) Ex. spironolactone, furosemide

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of RENIVA 100 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and/or flatulence.
