INTRODUCTION
ENVAS contains Enalaprilat which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihypertensive agents. It is used to manage hypertension (high blood pressure) when oral therapy is not suitable.
While undergoing therapy with ENVAS, follow the diet and lifestyle modification (such as low-salt diet, weight loss, quitting smoking or alcohol) as instructed by your doctor to achieve effective control of blood pressure.
Before receiving ENVAS inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have diabetes or are severely dehydrated due to vomiting or diarrhea before receiving ENVAS.
ENVAS is not recommended for use in patients with very a low blood pressure and in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding due to increased risk of side effects. Stop taking ENVAS and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while undergoing therapy with ENVAS.
ENVAS may make you feel dizzy while standing up suddenly or changing positions, especially during the initial days of the therapy. Therefore, do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines as a precaution. Also, contact your doctor immediately if you feel extremely dizzy.
ENVAS may reduce your blood sugar levels and electrolyte levels. Therefore, your doctor will constantly monitor your blood sugar levels and kidney functions during the therapy to avoid the risk of unwanted side effects.
Other most common side effects of receiving ENVAS are dizziness, headache, tiredness, and weakness. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

HOW ENVAS WORKS
ENVAS is an antihypertensive agent. It works by blocking the actions of an enzyme called angiotensin-converting enzyme, that causes narrowing of blood vessels and increase in blood pressure. This results in widening of blood vessels supplying the various vital organs (such as heart, brain or kidneys) and makes the heart to pump blood more smoothly with less pressure.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
ENVAS will be given to you only by a doctor or a trained health care professional into a vein (intravenously). Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF ENVAS
COMMON
- low blood pressure or feeling dizzy while standing up suddenly or changing position
- nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- headache, dizziness, tiredness
- chest pain
- difficulty in breathing
- skin rashes or itching
- excessive sweating
UNCOMMON
- stomach pain
- loss of appetite
- low blood sugar levels
RARE
Consult your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects after receiving ENVAS:
- severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, severe itching of the skin with raised lumps, blisters in the skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty in breathing or swallowing).
- impaired kidney function
- dizziness, fainting lightheadedness, excessive sweating following an exercise or after regular activities
- flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, rashes, itching, stomach pain, diarrhea, discoloration of eyes, skin and urine
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
ENVAS is not recommended for use in pregnant women as it may cause serious harm to the growing fetus. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving ENVAS if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or planning to have a baby. If you accidentally become pregnant while undergoing therapy with ENVAS, inform your doctor immediately.
BREASTFEEDING
ENVAS is not recommended for use in a breastfeeding mother as it may pass through the breast milk. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate a machine if you experience dizziness or drowsiness after receiving ENVAS.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving ENVAS.
KIDNEY

OTHERS
Before receiving ENVAS, inform your physician if you:
- have diabetes
- have problems in blood vessels
- recently suffered from excessive vomiting or diarrhea
- have any upcoming dental surgery
Use in pediatrics:
ENVAS is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before administration.
Use in geriatrics:
ENVAS should be used with caution in the elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before receiving ENVAS, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- lithium (used to manage mental illnesses such as depression and bipolar disorder)
- celecoxib and valdecoxib (used to relieve pain and swelling)
- aliskiren (a medicine used to reduce blood pressure)
- sodium aurothiomalate (a gold compound used to manage arthritis)
- potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics such as spironolactone, triamterene or amiloride (used to retain or increase potassium levels)
- diuretics (used to reduce edema and blood pressure) such as furosemide, chlorothiazide, torsemide
- other medicines used to reduce blood pressure such as angiotensin receptor blockers (such as olmesartan, telmisartan, losartan, valsartan)
- medicines used to manage diabetes (such as insulin, metformin)
Overdosage:
ENVAS will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms. Symptoms of overdosage might include lightheadedness or dizziness due to a sudden or excessive drop in blood pressure
