INTRODUCTION
EFIPRES 30MG contains Ephedrine which belongs to the group of medicines called Sympathomimetics. It is used to manage hypotension (low blood pressure) which commonly occurs following a spinal anesthesia. It raises blood pressure by temporarily narrowing the blood vessels supplying the heart.
During management with EFIPRES 30MG your doctor will constantly monitor your heart function and blood pressure to avoid any unwanted side effects.
Inform your doctor before receiving EFIPRES 30MG if you are taking or taken any medicines used to manage depression such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (such as phenelzine, selegiline, isocarboxazid) in the last 14 days.
You must also inform your doctor if you have any heart problems (such as angina or irregular heartbeat), hypertension, diabetes, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, or prostate enlargement.
EFIPRES 30MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women and it should be used in pregnant women only if considered necessary by the physician. It is not suitable for use in children (aged below 18 years) due to lack of safety data.
The common side effect of receiving EFIPRES 30MG are nausea, headache, weakness, shortness of breath. Consult your doctor immediately if the symptoms worsen.

As a result, it restores blood pressure in patients having hypotension following spinal anesthesia.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
EFIPRES 30MG will be given to you by a doctor or by a health care professional into the vein (intravenously). Your doctor will decide the correct dose, duration of therapy and frequency of administration depending upon your age, body weight and health condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF EFIPRES 30MG
COMMON
- confusion, depression, nervousness
- feeling irritated or restless
- weakness
- inability to sleep
- headache
- sweating
- shortness of breath

RARE
Consult your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects after receiving EFIPRES 30MG:
- severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, severe itching of the skin with raised lumps, blisters in the skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- difficulty in breathing, abnormal heartbeat, abnormal blood pressure
- cardiac arrest
- bleeding in the brain
- build-up of fluid within the lungs
- difficulty in passing urine
- increased pressure in the eye
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Try to take rest. Apply a pain-relieving balm on your forehead. If the symptom does not improve, consult with your doctor.

PREGNANCY
EFIPRES 30MG should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant before receiving EFIPRES 30MG. EFIPRES 30MG has been indicated to prevent low blood pressure in women who were manageed with spinal anesthesia during caesarean section.
BREASTFEEDING
EFIPRES 30MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
KIDNEY
EFIPRES 30MG should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
LIVER
EFIPRES 30MG should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
ALLERGY
Talk to your doctor before receiving EFIPRES 30MG if you are allergic to Ephedrine.
HEART DISEASE
EFIPRES 30MG is not recommended for use in patients with heart problems (such as irregular heartbeat). It should be used with caution in patients with other heart diseases (such as high blood pressure or angina). Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
OTHERS
EFIPRES 30MG is not recommended for use if you:
- have closed angle glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye)
- have phaeochromocytoma (a tumor present on the adrenal gland)

- have diabetes
- have bulge or block in the blood vessels
- have overactive thyroid gland
- have glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
- have an enlarged prostate gland
- are planned for a surgery
- are an athlete going for physical testing (such as anti-doping test)

EFIPRES 30MG is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) due to lack of safety data. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
Use in geriatrics:
EFIPRES 30MG should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
INTERACTIONS
Before receiving EFIPRES 30MG, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- other medicines act on the adrenergic system such as used to manage blocked nose, cough, breathing problems or heart problems (such as phenylpropanolamine, phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine, xylometazoline, adrenaline, noradrenaline, isoprenaline, methoxamine, salbutamol)
- methylphenidate (a medicine used to manage attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
- oxytocin (a medicine used to induce labor)
- inhaled general anesthetics (used to cause loss of consciousness) such as halothane or cyclopropane
- antidepressants (used to manage depression) such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (Ex. phenelzine, selegiline, isocarboxazid) or tricyclic antidepressants (Ex. imipramine, amitriptyline)
- linezolid (an antibiotic used to manage bacterial infections)
- sibutramine (a medicine used to reduce appetite)
- theophylline (a medicine used to manage severe asthma or other breathing difficulties)
- corticosteroids (used to manage pain or inflammation) Ex. methylprednisolone, prednisone, dexamethasone
- medicines used to manage epilepsy (such as phenytoin, carbamazepine, valproic acid)
- doxapram (a medicine used to stimulate breathing)
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure (such as guanethidine, reserpine and methyldopa)
- other ergot alkaloids (such as methysergide or ergotamine) used to manage migraine
- cardiac glycosides (used to manage abnormal heart rhythm) such as digoxin
Overdosage:
EFIPRES 30MG will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
