Uses of Pheniramine

Pheniramine is used in the treatment of allergic conditions (such as hay fever, angioneurotic oedema, drug rashes, serum sickness, allergic conjunctivitis (eye inflammation), food allergy), conditions of the respiratory tract which involves increased secretions (vasomotor rhinitis, acute rhinitis).

How Pheniramine works

Pheniramine acts on certain receptors called H1 receptors and inhibits the action of a chemical called histamine. This inhibition reduces itching, allergic reactions and reduces the dilation of the vessels leading to less redness and oedema (inflammation or swelling), thereby treating allergic conditions including conjunctivitis and drug rashes.

• If you experience swelling of the face, lips, mouth or throat, which may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing

• If you experience severe sedation, confusion or restlessness
• If you experience waves of sudden severe stomach pain
• If you experience hallucinations (seeing and hearing things that aren’t there), vision problems
• If you experience irregular heartbeat
• If you experience frequent infections such as fever, severe chills, sore throat or mouth ulcers

• Stick to the recommended dose of Pheniramine as prescribed by your doctor. Taking more than the recommended dose can lead to serious side effects
• If you experience significant drowsiness or impaired alertness while taking Pheniramine, refrain from driving or operating heavy machinery
• Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Pheniramine, as it may increase the risk of drowsiness and other side effects
