How Nefopam works
Nefopam interrupts the pain messages being sent to the brain and it also stops pain messages being felt, in the brain. It does not stop the pain from happening, but you will not be able to feel the pain as much.
Common side effects of Nefopam
- nausea, vomiting
- feeling dizzy or lightheaded
- feeling nervous, confused or shaky
- dryness of mouth
- difficulty urination seeing things that are not there (hallucinations)
- excess sleepiness
- numbness and tingling in extremities
- decreased blood pressure
When to consult your doctor
Consult your doctor if you experience:
- symptoms of allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) include skin rash, swelling of the skin and soft tissue around the eyes, nose and throat with difficulty breathing (angioedema)
- convulsions, tremor
- coma

- Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking Nefopam as it can increase the risk of dizziness, and other side effects
- Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizziness and drowsiness after taking Nefopam
- Drink adequate water throughout the day to help minimize potential side effects like dry mouth and dizziness
- Inform your doctor before taking Nefopam if you have liver, kidney or heart disease, or a history of fits
- Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning for pregnancy, or breastfeeding before taking this medication
- Nefopam might increase sensitivity to sunlight. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when exposed to the sun to prevent sunburn
