Introduction About XTANE 25MG TABLET

XTANE 25MG TABLET contains Exemestane which belongs to the group of medicines called Aromatase inhibitors. It is used for advanced breast cancer in post-menopausal women whose disease has progressed following Tamoxifen therapy. It is also used for hormone-dependent advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women when management with different hormonal drug management has not worked well enough.

Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control. There are different kinds of breast cancer. The kind of breast cancer depends on which cells in the breast turn into cancer. Breast cancer can begin in different parts of the breast.

Before taking XTANE 25MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problem, a history or are suffering from any condition which affects the strength of your bones. XTANE 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use among pregnant and breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it. The most common side effects of taking XTANE 25MG TABLET are depression, headache, muscle, and joint pain, hair loss, and abdominal pain. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen or persists for a longer duration.

Uses Of XTANE 25MG TABLET

It is used for:

  • advanced breast cancer in post-menopausal women whose disease has progressed following Tamoxifen therapy
  • hormone-dependent advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women when management with different hormonal drug management has not worked well enough

How XTANE 25MG TABLET Works

XTANE 25MG TABLET belongs to aromatase inhibitor which blocks the enzyme aromatase (found in the body's muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. It works by reducing the amount of oestrogen made in the body.

How to use XTANE 25MG TABLET

Take XTANE 25MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct duration for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.

Side Effects Of XTANE 25MG TABLET

Common

  • skin rash, hives, itchiness, swollen hands, and feet
  • hot flushes, difficulty sleeping and increased sweating (menopausal symptoms)
  • reduction in the number of white blood cells, platelets, liver enzymes, blood enzymes, and hemoglobin
  • carpal tunnel syndrome (combination of pins and needles, pain and numbness affecting all the hand except the little finger) or tingling/prickling of the skin
  • depression
  • headache
  • musculoskeletal pain (bone, muscle, or joint pain)
  • dizziness
  • tiredness
  • abdominal pain
  • loss of appetite
  • vomiting
  • constipation
  • indigestion
  • diarrhea
  • hair loss
  • thinning of bones which might decrease their strength (osteoporosis), leading to bone fractures (breaks or cracks)
  • weakness

Rare

  • breaking out of small blisters 
  • drowsiness

Stop taking XTANE 25MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects;

  • hypersensitivity
  • inflammation of the liver (hepatitis) and bile ducts which cause yellowing of the skin (cholestatic hepatitis)
  • feeling unwell, nausea, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), itching, right-sided abdominal pain, and loss of appetite

How To Manage Side Effects

Diarrhea

Drink a lot of fluids such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

Nausea And Vomiting

Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods.

XTANE 25MG TABLET is not recommended if you have:

  • not already been through the menopause (still having a monthly period)

Before taking XTANE 25MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

  • have a history or are suffering from any condition which affects the strength of the bones

Interactions

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking XTANE 25MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • Rifampicin (used to manage infection)
  • Carbamazepine or phenytoin (used for epilepsy)
  • St. John wort (Hypericum perforatum)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of XTANE 25MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
