INTRODUCTION

VINPOTAG 5MG contains Vinpocetine which belongs to the group of medicines called Nootropics. It is indicated in adults to manage the symptoms caused by circulatory disorders in the brain (ischemic hypoperfusion and various forms of ischemic hypoperfusion conditions). Ischemic hypoperfusion is a condition in which there is an inadequate blood flow to the brain. It is characterized by symptoms such as difficulty speaking, weakness in one arm or leg, dizziness, vertigo, double vision or loss of coordination.

Before taking VINPOTAG 5MG inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney insufficiency, heart conditions (such as severe coronary heart disease, cardiac arrhythmia, prolonged QT intervals), lowered blood pressure, current eye inflammation or lactose intolerance. VINPOTAG 5MG is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women.

Also, it is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Consult with your doctor for advice. Some of the side effects of taking VINPOTAG 5MG are headache, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea and vomiting. Contact your physician if any of the symptoms of VINPOTAG 5MG gets worse.

HOW VINPOTAG 5MG WORKS

VINPOTAG 5MG works by inhibiting the voltage-dependent neuronal sodium channels, which in turn enhances a chemical messenger in the brain. Thus, increases blood flow within the brain, as a result it protects the destruction of nerve cells (neurons) and protects the brain. Thus, helps in enhanced function of nervous system.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take VINPOTAG 5MG as advised by your doctor. Swallow VINPOTAG 5MG with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration of VINPOTAG 5MG for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF VINPOTAG 5MG

UNCOMMON

  • headache
  • vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • constipation, diarrhoea, digestive problems, abdominal pain and vomiting

RARE

  • signs of decreased white blood cells in blood (mouth sores, fever), signs of decreased number of platelets (easy bruising, bleeding from nose or gums)
  • loss of appetite, diabetes mellitus
  • insomnia, sleep disorders, anxiety
  • dizziness, taste disorders, stiffness, weakness of the entire left or right side of the body, sleepiness, memory disturbances
  • swelling of the optic disc
  • increased or decreased hearing, loss of hearing, ringing ears (tinnitus)
  • heart attack, chest pain or discomfort, slow heart rate
  • increased heart rate, heart function disorders, sensations that your heart is pounding
  • increased blood pressure, hot flushes, blood vessels inflammation forming thrombus in veins
  • dry mouth, nausea, abdominal discomfort
  • redness of the skin or mucous membranes with itching (erythema), increased sweating, urticaria and itching
  • weakness, general discomfort, tiredness, warm sensation

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Vomiting:

VINPOTAG 5MG can be taken with or after meals. Simple meals are preferred. Oil rich foods or spicy foods should be avoided. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Try taking rest in a quiet and dark room. Apply pain-relieving balm on your forehead if required. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if the stomach pain worsens.

Constipation:

Take fiber rich foods in your diet such as fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain cereals, and drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly and stay active. Consult your doctor if constipation does not improve.

Diarrhea:

Increase the intake of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea without consulting your doctor. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

PREGNANCY

VINPOTAG 5MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult with your doctor before taking VINPOTAG 5MG if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby.

BREASTFEEDING

VINPOTAG 5MG is not recommended for use in breast feeding women. Consult with your doctor before taking VINPOTAG 5MG if you are a breast-feeding woman.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

You can drive and use machines while taking VINPOTAG 5MG since this medicine does not have any influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

KIDNEY

VINPOTAG 5MG should be used with caution if you have any kidney impairments (such as kidney insufficiency). Inform and consult with your doctor before taking VINPOTAG 5MG.

LIVER

VINPOTAG 5MG should be used with caution if you have any liver conditions (such as liver insufficiency). Consult with your doctor before taking VINPOTAG 5MG.

ALLERGY

Do not take VINPOTAG 5MG if you are allergic to vinpocetine or to lactose or some sugars or to any other ingredients of this medicine.  Inform and consult with your doctor before taking VINPOTAG 5MG.

HEART DISEASE

VINPOTAG 5MG is not recommended for use if you have certain heart conditions such as severe coronary heart disease and severe arrhythmia and it should be used with caution in patients with low blood pressure, prolonged QT interval. Consult your doctor before taking VINPOTAG 5MG.

OTHERS

VINPOTAG 5MG is not recommended for use, if you:

  • had recent bleeding in the brain
  • have short term haemorrhagic cerebral (brain) blood flow stroke
  • intracranial hypertension (pressure inside the skull will be increased).

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking VINPOTAG 5MG, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • aspirin, clopidogrel, dalteparin, enoxaparin, heparin and warfarin (used to manage blood clots)
  • diclofenac, ibuprofen and naproxen (used to manage pain)
  • antiarrhythmics Ex. amiodarone (used to manage heart rhythm disorders)
  • antihypertensive drugs Ex. nifedipine (used to manage high blood
    pressure)
  • medicinal products acting on the central nervous system (Ex. citalopram, escitalopram) (used to manage depression and anxiety)
  • cayenne peppers, garlic, cassia cinnamon, gingko biloba, grape seed extract, dong quai and feverfew (blood thinning herbal medicines)
  • medicinal products known to cause QT prolongation like clarithromycin (used to manage bacterial infections)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of VINPOTAG 5MG, contact your doctor or visit the nearby hospital immediately.
