Introduction About TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT

TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT contains Tobramycin which belongs to the group of medicines known as Antibiotics. It is used in the management of external infections of the eye and its adnexa caused by susceptible bacteria.

Bacterial conjunctivitis is the infection of the transparent membrane (conjunctiva) that lines the eyelid and covers the white part of your eyeball. Symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis include pain, discomfort, redness, itching, irritation and watering of the eyes.

Do not wear contact lens if you have ocular infection while using TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT. Remove the contact lenses before using TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT and can put them back after 15 minutes of use.

TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT should be used with caution in patients who have ever had neuromuscular disorders, such as myasthenia gravis or Parkinson’s disease.

TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT should be used with caution in pregnant women or if you think you may be pregnant and in breastfeeding woman. Consult your doctor before using.

The safety and effectiveness of TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT in children under the age of 2 months has not been established.

The common side effects of using this medicine are swollen, itchiness in eyelids, eye irritation, redness of eyes, watery eyes. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT effectively works against the disease-causing bacteria by binding irreversibly to one of two amino glycoside binding sites on the 30 S ribosomal subunit of bacteria thereby terminating the bacterial growth.

How to use TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT

Always use TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT exactly as directed by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Apply the medicine into the affected eye 1 to 2 times a day or as directed by the physician. Your doctor will administer the right dose depends on your age, body weight and disease condition.

Side Effects Of TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT

Common

  • eye irritation or feeling of having something in the eye
  • inflammation of the cornea (clear front portion of your eye)
  • swollen or itchiness in eyelids
  • redness of eyes
  • watery eyes (increased tearing)

Rare

Stop using TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • skin rashes
  • swelling of the face, legs and hands
  • wheezing, difficulty in breathing
  • severe and sudden appearance of pinkish, itchy swellings on the skin, also called hives or nettle rash

Pregnancy

There are no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women. TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Consult your doctor before using.

Breastfeeding

TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT should be used with caution in breastfeeding woman. Consult your doctor before using.

Driving and Using Machines

Do not drive or handle any machines while using this medicine, since it may cause blurred vision or other visual disturbances.

Allergy

Do not use TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT you are allergic to Tobramycin or to any other ingredients of this medicine.

Others

Before using TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT, inform your doctor if you:

Interactions

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

  • beta lactam antibiotics like penicillin’s, cephalosporins (medicines used to manage infections of the eye, ear or the skin)
  • other aminoglycoside antibiotics like gentamicin, amikacin (medicines used to manage bacterial infections)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally uses too much of TOBRACID EYE OINTMENT, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Wash your eyes and rinse it all out with warm water.

Yes, it may cause itching and burning sensation of eye in some patients. Close your eyes and relax for some time to reduce irritation. Place an ice pack over the eyes for few minutes. Avoid watching mobile phone, system, laptop or any other light sources which might irritate your eyes. If the symptom persists or worsens, contact your doctor.
