Introduction About TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION

TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION contains Tirofiban which belongs to the group of medicines called Platelet Aggregation Inhibitors. It is used to assist the blood flow to the heart and manage chest pain and heart attacks. It may also be used in patients whose heart vessels are dilated with a balloon (a procedure known as percutaneous coronary intervention where a small tube or stent is implanted to improve the blood flow to the heart). It is a possibly with implantation of a small tube (stent), to improve the blood flow to the heart. TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION is not recommended for use in patients who have a history of bleeding, stroke with bleeding within last 30 days, history of bleeding in the brain, brain tumour or abnormal blood vessels in the brain, severe uncontrolled high blood pressure (malignant hypertension), severe liver disease, low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) either in current situation or as a previous encounter to usage of Tirofiban.

Before receiving TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION inform your doctor if you have or had any medical problems, allergies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), biopsy, serious injury or major surgery, ulcer in the stomach or intestine within the last 3 months, bleeding disorder within 1 year, recent spinal procedure, history or symptoms of splitting of the aorta, uncontrolled high blood pressure, inflammation of the heart lining or blood vessels, disorder of the blood vessels in the back of the eye, kidney problems, heart failure, unusually low blood pressure due to heart failure, liver disorder, or low blood count.

TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION is not recommended during pregnancy. Contact your doctor before receiving. The most common side effects of TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION are bleeding post-surgery under the skin at the site of the injection causing swelling, small red bruises on the skin, invisible blood in urine or stool, nausea, or headache. Contact your doctor if you experience any of the above side effects or persists for a longer duration.

Uses Of TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION

It is used:

  • to assist the blood flow to the heart and manage chest pain and heart attack
  • in patients whose heart vessels are dilated with a balloon (a procedure known as percutaneous coronary intervention where a small tube or stent is implanted to improve the blood flow to the heart)

How TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION Works

TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION is a reversible antagonist of fibrinogen that binds to the glycoprotein (GP) IIb/IIIa receptor, the major platelet surface receptor involved in platelet aggregation. It works by managing platelets, cells found in the blood, from forming blood clots.

How to use TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION

TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION will be administered intravenously by your doctor or nurse only. Dose and duration will be decided by your physician depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Side Effects Of TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION

Common

  • bleeding post surgery
  • bleeding under the skin at the site of an injection, or into a muscle, causing swelling
  • small red bruises on the skin
  • invisible blood in urine or stool
  • nausea
  • headache
  • blood in urine or while coughing
  • bleeding in the nose, gums, and mouth or from the puncture site
  • reduction in red blood cells
  • decreases in platelet count
  • fever

Uncommon

  • bleeding in the stomach or intestines
  • vomiting of blood

Stop receiving TIROFUSE 5MG INFUSION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • signs of bleeding in the skull such as headache, sensory impairments (visual or hearing), speech difficulties, numbness or difficulty in movement or balance
  • signs of internal bleeding such as coughing up blood or blood in urine or stool
  • signs of serious allergic reactions such as breathing difficulty and dizziness
