TELEKAST T TABLET is a combination of Montelukast and Theophylline which belongs to the group of medicines called Leukotriene receptor antagonists and Xanthines respectively. TELEKAST T TABLET is used to manage bronchial asthma.
Asthma is a condition in which a person's airways becomes inflamed, narrow, swell and produce extra mucus, which makes it difficult for a person to breathe which is generally characterized by symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, wheezing (whistling sound while breathing) and sleeplessness.
Before taking TELEKAST T TABLET, inform your doctor if you are asthmatic, have worsening chest symptoms such as breathlessness or cough, stomach ulcer, cystic fibrosis (a life-threatening disorder that damages lungs and digestive system), seizures, fits or convulsions, have a viral infection or have heart, kidney or liver problems.
Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby or a breastfeeding woman. TELEKAST T TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 15 years). It should be used with caution in patients with elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
The most common symptoms of taking TELEKAST T TABLET are abdominal pain, headache, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and fever. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects get worse.

TELEKAST T TABLET helps in managing the symptoms of asthma, where montelukast blocks leukotriene (a chemical messenger) that results in the reduction of inflammation of the airways and theophylline (a xanthine derivative) that acts by relaxing the muscles of the airways that results in easier breathing by managing the symptoms of asthma.
How to use TELEKAST T TABLET
Take TELEKAST T TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow TELEKAST T TABLET with a glass of water and do not chew or crush the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Common
- abdominal pain, acid reflux
- headache
- diarrhea
- rash, fever
- signs of upper respiratory tract infection (cough, wheezing, fever, breathing difficulty)
- increased stomach acid secretion

Uncommon
- signs of behavior and mood-related changes (dream abnormalities, including nightmares, trouble sleeping, sleepwalking, irritability, feeling anxious, restlessness)

- muscle or joint pain

- signs of allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, and/or throat which may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing, sudden wheezing, rash or itching especially those covering your whole body
- signs of behavior and mood related changes such as agitation including aggressive behavior or hostility, hallucinations, disorientation, suicidal thoughts and actions
- depression
- seizure, tremor
- increased bleeding tendency
- palpitations (sensing fast heartbeat)
- combination of symptoms such as flu-like illness (fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headaches)
- signs of Churg-Strauss syndrome (a disorder marked by inflammation of blood vessel) such as tingling, prickling or numbness sensation in arms and legs, worsening of pulmonary symptoms (such as blue lip or skin, dizziness, chest pain) and/or rash
- swelling (inflammation) of the lungs
- severe skin reactions such as erythema multiforme that may occur without warning
hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluids such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Dizziness:
Lie down until the dizziness passes away and then move slowly and carefully. Take plenty amount of rest and drink plenty of fluids. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Try taking rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Nausea and vomiting:
Try to take TELEKAST T TABLET with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich, fried or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Pregnancy
TELEKAST T TABLET should be used during pregnancy only if considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.

Breastfeeding
TELEKAST T TABLET should be used in breast-feeding women only if considered clearly necessary as this medicine is secreted in breast milk and cause irritability to the infant while breast-feeding. Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.

Driving and Using Machines
TELEKAST T TABLET might cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience these side effects, try to avoid driving or operating heavy machines. Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking TELEKAST T TABLET since it may alter the effect of the medicine. Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.

Kidney
TELEKAST T TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.

Liver
TELEKAST T TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.

Allergy
TELEKAST T TABLET is not recommended for use if you are allergic to Montelukast Theophylline, or aminophylline.

Lungs
TELEKAST T TABLET should be used with caution in patients with asthma or breathing problems. Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.

Heart Disease
TELEKAST T TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart problems such as irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure or other heart problems. Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.
Others
TELEKAST T TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have porphyria (a rare disease of the blood pigments)
Before taking TELEKAST T TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- are intolerant to certain sugars such as lactose
- have worsening of chest symptoms (such as breathlessness or cough)
- have an over or under-active thyroid gland
- have a stomach ulcer
- have cystic fibrosis (a life-threatening disorder that damages lungs and digestive system)
- suffer from seizures, fits or convulsions
- are unwell with a high temperature or fever
- have a viral infection
- are addicted to alcohol
- are male and have difficulty in passing urine (Ex. due to an enlarged prostate gland)
- are smoking
Use in Pediatrics:
TELEKAST T TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 15 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.
Use in Geriatrics:
TELEKAST T TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or above). Consult your doctor before taking TELEKAST T TABLET.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking TELEKAST T TABLET, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- acetylsalicylic acid (used for mild to moderate pain and to manage fever)
- anti-inflammatory medicines (used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation and fever) Ex. ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac
- carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin (used for the management of epilepsy)
- rifampicin or isoniazid (used to manage tuberculosis)
- gemfibrozil (used for the management of high cholesterol)
- certain other medicines to manage asthma or breathing conditions that contain aminophylline, salbutamol, terbutaline or salmeterol
- steroids (used for allergic red, itchy skin and painful joints and muscles) Ex. prednisolone, betamethasone, dexamethasone.
- diuretics (medicine used to increase urine production) Ex. aldactone, bumetanide, torsemide
- oral contraceptives (medicines used to manage pregnancy) Ex. estrogen and progestin
- st.john’s wort (herbal medicine used for depression)
- aminoglutethimide, methotrexate or lomustine (medicine used to manage cancer)
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure and other heart problems (Ex. adenosine, diltiazem, isoprenaline, mexiletine, propafenone, propranolol, verapamil or beta blockers such as acebutolol, atenolol, bisoprolol)
- regadenoson or dipyridamole (medicines used to manage heart problems)
- medicine used to manage diseased blood vessels Ex. pentoxifylline
- medicines used as a sedative or to manage anxiety such as benzodiazepine (Ex. alprazolam, chlordiazepoxide, clorazepate)
- medicine used to manage herpes simplex infection due to herpes virus Ex. aciclovir
