Introduction About SIN 10MG TABLET
SIN 10MG TABLET contains Simvastatin which belongs to the group of medicines called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins). It is used in the management of primary hypercholesterolaemia (high amounts of cholesterol in the blood), mixed dyslipidaemia (increased level of fat in the blood) or homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (a hereditary cholesterol disease) along with other medicines.
SIN 10MG TABLET is also used to manage coronary heart disease or are at high risk of coronary heart disease (because of diabetes, history of stroke or any other blood vessel disease) in addition to your cholesterol-lowering diet.
SIN 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients currently having liver disease. Before taking SIN 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have severe lung disease, kidney disease, history of liver disease, diabetes high blood pressure and thyroid problems.
SIN 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. SIN 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in children and adolescents (between 10-17 years of age) and in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.
The most common side effects of taking SIN 10MG TABLET are headache, abdominal pain, gastritis, constipation, upper respiratory tract infection. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms get worse.

Manage:
- primary hypercholesterolaemia
- mixed dyslipidaemia
- homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia
- coronary heart disease or are at high risk of coronary heart disease
How SIN 10MG TABLET Works
SIN 10MG TABLET works by blocking the enzyme that our body needs to make cholesterol and helps to lower levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and fatty substances called triglycerides in the blood.
SIN 10MG TABLET also raises levels of good cholesterol (HDL cholesterol). Thus SIN 10MG TABLET may prolong your life by reducing the risk of heart disease problems.
How to use SIN 10MG TABLET
Take SIN 10MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. It can be taken with or without food.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop using SIN 10MG TABLET unless your doctor told to you. Otherwise, your cholesterol may rise again.
Side Effects Of SIN 10MG TABLET
Common
- headache
- abdominal pain, gastritis, constipation
- upper respiratory tract infection
Rare
- numbness or weakness of the arms and legs
- dizziness, tingling sensation
- blurred vision, impaired vision
- digestive disturbances such as flatulence, indigestion, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting
- rash, itching, hair loss
- weakness
- memory loss, confusion
- depression
Stop taking SIN 10MG TABLET and consult with your doctor if you experience any of the following:
- muscle pain, tenderness, muscle weakness, muscle cramps. On rare occasions, these muscle problems can be serious, including muscle breakdown resulting in kidney damage
- allergic reactions causing face, tongue and throat swelling which may cause breathing difficulties
- severe muscle pain in the hips and shoulders
- rash with weakness of limbs and neck muscles
- skin rashes and mouth sores
- pain or inflammation of the joint
- inflammation of the blood vessels
- unusual bruising, skin eruptions and swelling, hives, skin sensitivity to the sun, fever and flushing
- shortness of breathing and feeling unwell
- lupus-like disease (including rash, joint disorders and effects on blood cells)
- inflammation of the liver associated with yellowing of the skin and eyes, itching, dark-coloured urine or pale-coloured stool, tiredness or weakness, loss of appetite, liver failure
- pancreas inflammation accompanied with severe abdominal pain
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea or vomiting:
Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea and vomiting does not improve.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Consult with your doctor if constipation persists.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if the headache did not improve.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizziness. Do not consume alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if the dizziness did not improve.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Try eating and drinking slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. If the stomach pain does not improve, contact your doctor.
Flatulence:
Eat smaller and more frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly and exercise regularly. If the flatulence does not improve, contact your doctor.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if the diarrhoea did not improve.
Skin rash:
Avoid hot bath because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if the rashes worsen.
Warning & Precautions
Pregnancy
SIN 10MG TABLET is not recommended in pregnant women or are planning for pregnancy. If you get pregnant while taking SIN 10MG TABLET, stop taking it immediately and contact your doctor.
Breastfeeding
SIN 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether this medicine is passed into breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking SIN 10MG TABLET.
Driving and Using Machines
SIN 10MG TABLET is not expected to interfere with your ability to drive or to use machinery. However, it is recommended to be cautious while driving or using machines as some people get dizzy after taking SIN 10MG TABLET.
Alcohol
Inform your doctor before taking SIN 10MG TABLET if you consume a large amount of alcohol.
Kidney
SIN 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking SIN 10MG TABLET.
Liver
SIN 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients currently having liver disease and inform your doctor if you ever had liver disease.
Allergy
Do not take SIN 10MG TABLET if you are allergic to Simvastatin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Inform your doctor if you have any allergies.
Lungs
SIN 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe lung disease. Consult your doctor before taking SIN 10MG TABLET.
Others
Before taking SIN 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- are due to have an operation
- have diabetes or at high risk of diabetes due to high levels of sugars and fats in the blood, are overweight and have high blood pressure
- have thyroid problems
- have ever had a history of muscle problems during management with cholesterol-lowering medicines
- or a family member has a hereditary muscle disorder
- have an intolerance to lactose or other sugars
Use in pediatrics:
SIN 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in children and adolescents (between 10-17 years of age), usually starting the management with the lowest effective dose. Consult your doctor before giving SIN 10MG TABLET to your children.
Use in Geriatrics:
SIN 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age due to the increased risk of muscle breakdown. Consult your doctor before taking SIN 10MG TABLET.
Interactions
A. Drug-drug interactions:
Before taking SIN 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, voriconazole (medicines used in the management of fungal infections)
- erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin, chloramphenicol and fusidic acid (medicines used in the management of bacterial infections)
- HIV protease inhibitors (Ex. indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir and saquinavir), cobicistat (medicines used in the management of HIV)
- boceprevir, telaprevir, elbasvir or grazoprevir (medicines used in the management of hepatitis C virus infection)
- nefazodone (a medicine used to manage depression)
- ciclosporin (used in the management of transplant rejection)
- danazol (a medicine used to manage endometriosis)
- gemfibrozil, bezafibrate, fenofibrate, niacin (medicines used to lower cholesterol levels)
- amiodarone (used in the management of irregular heartbeat)
- verapamil, amlodipine, diltiazem, ranolazine (medicines used in the management of high blood pressure, chest pain associated with heart disease or other heart problems)
- lomitapide (used in the management of a genetic cholesterol condition)
- daptomycin (used in the management of complicated skin and skin structure infections and bacteraemia)
- colchicine (used in the management of gout)
- acenocoumarol, warfarin, phenprocoumon (medicines used in the management of blood clotting)
- ticagrelor (used in the management of heart attack and stroke)
- rifampicin (used to manage tuberculosis)
- carbamazepine, phenytoin (medicines used to manage fits)
- St. johns wart (used to manage depression)
B. Drug-food interactions:
Do not consume grapefruit juice while taking SIN 10MG TABLET, as it contains one or more components that alter how the body uses the medicine.
Over dosage:
If you or anyone else have accidentally taken too much of SIN 10MG TABLET, consult with your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

SIN 10MG TABLET will be taken once a day in the night. This is because your body makes most of its cholesterol at night, so SIN 10MG TABLET works better at lowering cholesterol at night than in the morning. It does not cause stomach upset, so you can take it with or without food.

How long does it take SIN 10MG TABLET to control cholesterol?
After starting SIN 10MG TABLET, it takes about six weeks for cholesterol levels to stabilise, so your doctor would re-check your cholesterol levels after about eight weeks of taking SIN 10MG TABLET.
Can I skip taking SIN 10MG TABLET?
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses of SIN 10MG TABLET.
