What is SHELCAL CT?
SHELCAL CT contains vitamin D3 (calcitriol) and calcium which is indicated as a vital calcium supplement in deficiency states such as:
- during growth
- prevention and adjunct management of senile, post-menopausal and corticosteroid induced osteoporosis
What SHELCAL CT is used for?
SHELCAL CT contains the below mentioned components, which have the following uses:
Vitamin D3 (Calcitriol):
- It is the active form of vitamin D3, which is important for the regulation of absorption of calcium from the stomach, and for the utilization and functioning of calcium in the body
Calcium:
- It is a major constituent found in various parts of the human body, the majority of which make up the bones and teeth, and is used to prevent or to manage calcium deficiencies

Talk to your doctor before using this medicine, if you:
- are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients in the medicine
- have hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria
- have nephrolithiasis, nephrocalciosis, severe renal impairment, renal failure, renal stones
- have hypervitaminosis D
- are receiving management for cardiovascular disease
- have any other chronic or acute medical conditions
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine
- Ask your doctor for advice before giving this medicine to your children
- This medicine will usually not affect your ability to drive and use machines
Tell your doctor if you might take any other medicines such as:
- thiazide diuretics drugs (used to manage high blood pressure, renal calcium reabsorption)
- phenytoin (used to manage seizures)
- barbiturates (used to manage insomnia, anxiety, seizures)
- glucocorticoids (steroid hormones with anti-inflammatory effects)
- digitalis, cardiac glycosides (used to manage irregular heartbeats and other heart conditions)
- thyroxine (used to manage thyroid hormone deficiency)
- bisphosphonates (used to manage osteoporosis)
- sodium fluoride drugs (used to manage cavities, dental conditions)
- quinolone, tetracycline antibiotics (used to manage various infections)
- iron supplements
- other vitamins, minerals, herbal supplements you may have obtained without a prescription
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Swallow the medicine whole with a glass of water
- Continue to follow any advice about diet recommended by your doctor
If you take more SHELCAL CT
- If you, either accidentally, or just happen to take more than the prescribed dose of this medicine, contact your doctor for advice
If you forget to take SHELCAL CT
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember
- If you do not remember until it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule
- Do not take a double dose of this medicine
If you stop taking SHELCAL CT
- Do not stop taking this medicine until your doctor tells you to do so
Like all medicines, this medicine can also cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Furthermore, if any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effect not listed here, please inform your doctor at once.
- allergic reactions (such as rash)
- nausea, vomiting
- stomach and intestinal problems and/or pain
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
- Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
