What is SETCAL?
- SETCAL contains Calcium carbonate and Cholecalciferol
What SETCAL is used for?
It is used
- for maintaining healthy bones and teeth
- to maintain levels of the vitamin D3 in your body
- to manage and prevent calcium deficiency
- to manage certain bone conditions such as osteoporosis
- in patients undergoing kidney dialysis to remove excess phosphate from the blood

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
- are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D3 or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- have higher than normal levels of calcium in your blood
- have severe kidney failure
- have osteoporosis (thinning of the bones) due to long periods of inactivity, such as long-term bed rest
- have sarcoidosis (inflammation that produces lumps of cells in various organs in the body)
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
Tell your doctor, if you are taking:
- calcium supplements or antacids for indigestion
- digoxin, diuretics or corticosteroids
- thyroxine, bisphosphonates, iron or fluoride medicines, tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
If you take more SETCAL
- If you take more of this medicine contact your doctor immediately
If you forget to take SETCAL
- If you forget to take SETCAL take them as soon as possible and then continue to take them as normal. Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten dose
If you stop taking SETCAL
- Do not stop taking this medicine. Always talk to your doctor before you stop taking this medicine
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
- allergic reactions marked by itching, wheezing, rash, swelling of the tongue or throat
- constipation, wind, feeling sick, stomach ache, diarrhoea
- skin rash
- hypercalcaemia (too much calcium in your blood) or hypercalciuria (too much calcium in your urine)
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children
- Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
