Introduction About SELSUN SUSPENSION

Selsun Suspension is an antifungal preparation used to manage and control dandruff and tinea versicolor (a common fungal infection causing small, discoloured patches of skin). It contains selenium as an active ingredient which acts by slowing down the cell growth of the scalp layer that causes dandruff.

Selenium Disulfide exerts a cytostatic (inhibits the cell growth) effect on the follicular epithelium and epidermis cells, which decreases the production of corneocytes (cells which produce outer layer of the skin). As a result, it relieves itching and flaking of the scalp and removes the dry, scaly particles.

Always use Selsun Suspension as directed by the physician. It is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. It should not be used when acute inflammation or exudation (oozing out) is present.

Selsun Suspension should not be used to manage tinea versicolor during pregnancy. Safety and effectiveness in infants have not been established so, consult your child’s doctor for advice.

Side Effects Of SELSUN SUSPENSION

Selsun Suspension may cause skin irritation, increase in amount of normal hair loss, or discoloration of hair. Consult your doctor if you notice any such side effects while using it.

Safety Advice

• Always apply Selsun Suspension as advised by your physician
• Avoid contact with eyes
• Use twice weekly or as directed by your doctor
• Wash your hair with mild soap, rinse and then massage enough Selsun Suspension on your scalp to form lather
• Leave for 2-3 minutes and wash it
• Repeat the procedure and wash thoroughly
• For tinea versicolor, apply to the affected areas with water and rinse after 10 minutes. Use once daily for seven days or as directed by your doctor
• Do not use if you are allergic to any of its components
• Selsun Suspension should not be used to manage tinea versicolor during pregnancy
• Safety and effectiveness in infants have not been established so, consult your child’s doctor for advice
• It should not be used when acute inflammation or exudation is present
• Inform your doctor on all the medicines you use, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as herbal supplements
