INTRODUCTION
POVIDOT OZ OINMENT is a combination of Ornidazole and Povidone Iodine which belongs to the group of medicines called Nitroimidazoles and Antiseptics respectively. It is used to prevent, control, manage and improve condition and symptoms of wound infection, minor cuts, graze, burns, boils, ulcers, blisters, abrasion, bacterial infections (such as paronychia, impetigo, furunculosis, otitis externa, sycosis barbae), fungal infections (such as tinea infestation, custodian candidiasis), protozoan infections, and infections that occurs after surgical procedures.
POVIDOT OZ OINMENT is not recommended for use if you have any health condition or illness. Before using POVIDOT OZ OINMENT, inform your doctor if you are planned for any upcoming surgery, have fits, or multiple sclerosis (an autoimmune disease). POVIDOT OZ OINMENT is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women.
Also, it is not recommended for use in children (aged below 2 years) and neonates, and it should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 70 years). The most common side effects of using POVIDOT OZ OINMENT are local irritation, rashes, burning or stinging sensation and redness. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect worsens.
USES OF POVIDOT OZ OINMENT
Used to prevent, control, manage and improve condition and symptoms of:
- wound infection, minor cuts and graze, burns, boils, ulcers, blisters, abrasion
- bacterial infections (such as paronychia, impetigo, furunculosis, otitis externa, sycosis barbae)
- fungal infections (such as tinea infestation, custodian candidiasis)
- protozoan infections
- infections that occurs after surgical procedures
HOW POVIDOT OZ OINMENT WORKS
POVIDOT OZ OINMENT is a combination of Ornidazole and Povidone iodine, where ornidazole works by damaging the DNA of the microorganism on the infected site which results in destruction of the bacteria and other infectious microorganisms. Povidone iodine works by releasing iodine on the infected site which causes destruction and prevention of growth of infectious microorganisms on the infected site thereby manageing the infection.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Apply POVIDOT OZ OINMENT as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. Clean and dry the affected area before the application. Wash your hands before and after applying POVIDOT OZ OINMENT. Avoid applying this medicine around your eyes, including eyelids. Your doctor will decide the duration of management depending upon the severity of the infection or wound.

RARE
Stop using POVIDOT OZ OINMENT and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of metabolic acidosis (condition marked by too much acid in body fluids) such as fast heartbeat, confusion, headache
- signs of hypernatremia (increased sodium level in blood) such as muscle weakness, restlessness, extreme thirst
- impaired kidney function such as nausea, vomiting or loss of appetite
- conjunctival hyperemia (eye inflammation)
- superficial punctate keratitis (eye disorder)
- allergic reactions such as swelling, rash, itching and shortness of breath
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Rashes:
Avoid taking shower or bath in hot water as it worsen the condition and pat dry the skin. Do not scratch the affected area. Wear protective clothing while going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin after consulting the doctor. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

BREASTFEEDING

Avoid driving or using machines while applying POVIDOT OZ OINMENT.
ALLERGY
