INTRODUCTION

PLANEP 50MG contains Eplerenone, which belongs to the group of medicines called Selective Aldosterone blocking agents. It is used for the management of mild to moderate hypertension (condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high) and heart failure in adults. Heart failure is a chronic condition in which the heart doesn't pump blood properly to meet the body’s demand.

PLANEP 50MG is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease, severe kidney disease, or high potassium levels in the blood etc. It should be used with caution in patients with other kidney or liver diseases etc. Consult your doctor before taking PLANEP 50MG. Before taking PLANEP 50MG inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant or breast-feeding women.

PLANEP 50MG is not recommended for use in children and growing adults. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking PLANEP 50MG. The most common side effects of taking PLANEP 50MG are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, high potassium level, low blood pressure, fainting, dizziness, headache etc. Consult your doctor if any of the symptom worsens.

HOW PLANEP 50MG WORKS

PLANEP 50MG works by inhibiting the action of aldosterone, a hormonal substance produced within the body that controls blood pressure and heart function. As a result, it effectively regulates blood pressure and improves heart function.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take PLANEP 50MG as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF PLANEP 50MG

COMMON

  • elevated potassium levels in the blood (symptoms include muscle cramps, diarrhoea, nausea, dizziness or headache)  
  • fainting, dizziness
  • insomnia (difficulty sleeping)
  • headache  
  • irregular heartbeat  
  • cough  
  • low blood pressure
  • nausea, vomiting
  • diarrhoea, constipation  
  • abnormal functioning of your kidney  
  • rash, itching
  • back pain
  • feeling weak
  • muscle spasm

UNCOMMON

  • infection
  • eosinophilia (increase in certain white blood cells)
  • low sodium blood levels
  • dehydration
  • elevated triglycerides (fats) levels in the blood
  • fast heartbeat
  • inflammation of the gall bladder
  • decreased blood pressure upon standing causing dizziness
  • thrombosis (blood clot) in the leg
  • sore throat
  • flatulence
  • underactive thyroid
  • increase in blood glucose levels
  • reduced sense of touch  
  • increased sweating
  • musculoskeletal pain
  • feeling generally unwell  
  • kidney inflammation
  • enlargement of breasts in men

Stop taking PLANEP 50MG and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • angioneurotic oedema symptoms such as a swollen face, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives and difficulties breathing

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Take rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or fruit juices. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Nausea and vomiting:

Take PLANEP 50MG with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Do not lie down immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.  

Diarrhoea:

Drink lot of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for manageing diarrhoea. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Constipation:

Eat plenty of fiber-rich foods in your diet such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink plenty of water and exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Dizziness:

Lie down until dizziness passes away and then move slowly and carefully. Take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

PLANEP 50MG should be used with caution in pregnant women. Inform your doctor, if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant or planning to have a baby. Consult your doctor before taking PLANEP 50MG.

BREASTFEEDING

It is not known whether PLANEP 50MG is excreted in human breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking PLANEP 50MG.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machinery if you feel dizzy after taking PLANEP 50MG.

KIDNEY

PLANEP 50MG is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease. It should be used with caution in patients with other kidney diseases. Consult your doctor before taking PLANEP 50MG.

LIVER

PLANEP 50MG is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. It should be used with caution in patients with other liver diseases. Consult your doctor before taking PLANEP 50MG.

ALLERGY

Do not take PLANEP 50MG if you are allergic to Eplerenone or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

PLANEP 50MG is not recommended for use if you have:

  • high levels of potassium in the blood (hyperkalemia)

Use in pediatrics:

PLANEP 50MG is not recommended for use in children and growing adults. Consult child’s doctor for advice.

Use in geriatrics:

PLANEP 50MG should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking PLANEP 50MG.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking PLANEP 50MG, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • itraconazole, ketoconazole and fluconazole (used to manage fungal infections)
  • ritonavir, nelfinavir and saquinavir (used to manage HIV infection)
  • clarithromycin, telithromycin, trimethoprim, erythromycin and rifampicin (used to manage bacterial infections)  
  • nefazodone and tricyclic antidepressants like amitriptyline, and amoxapine (used to manage depression)  
  • potassium-sparing diuretics such as spironolactone (used to manage high blood pressure)
  • potassium supplements (salt tablets) (used to increase potassium levels in the blood)
  • angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors such as lisinopril, ramipril and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) such as losartan, olmesartan (used to manage high blood pressure, heart disease or some kidney conditions)
  • lithium (used to manage bipolar disorder)
  • cyclosporine or tacrolimus (used to manage skin diseases such as psoriasis or eczema and prevent rejection after organ transplantation)
  • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (used to relieve pain and inflammation)
  • alpha blockers such as prazosin or alfuzosin (used to manage high blood pressure and particular prostate conditions)
  • antipsychotics such as chlorpromazine or haloperidol (used to manage psychiatric disorders)
  • amifostine (used to protect kidneys during cancer management)
  • baclofen (used to manage muscle spasms)
  • glucocorticoids Ex. hydrocortisone or prednisone (used to manage inflammation and certain skin conditions)
  • tetracosactide (used to manage disorders of the adrenal cortex)
  • digoxin (used to manage heart conditions)
  • warfarin (used to prevent and manage blood clots)
  • amiodarone, diltiazem and verapamil (used to manage heart problems and high blood pressure)
  • st. john's wort (herbal medicine used to manage depression),
  • medicines used to manage seizures (Ex. carbamazepine, phenytoin, and phenobarbital)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of PLANEP 50MG, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose might include low blood pressure (causing light-headedness, dizziness, blurred vision, weakness, acute loss of consciousness) or high levels of potassium in the blood (signs include muscle cramps, diarrhoea, nausea, dizziness or headache).
