Introduction About NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET

NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET contains Nitrofurantoin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used in the management of urinary tract infections. It is an infection that occurs in any part of the urinary system including bladder, kidneys, ureters and urethra. It causes symptoms such as strong, continuous urge to urinate, burning sensation while urinating, decreased flow in urine, cloudy appearance of urine, blood in urine and pain in pelvic region, especially seen among women.

Your doctor will regularly test to know how your lungs and liver are working. NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET may also interfere with urine tests for sugar, resulting in a false positive result.

NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with lung or liver disease, anaemia, diabetes (high blood sugar), any illness causing severe weakness, electrolyte imbalance and vitamin B deficiency and recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease.

NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women at the stage of labour or delivery because of the possibility that use at this stage may harm the baby and should be used with caution in breast-feeding women.

This medicine is avoided for use in infants below 3 months of age. NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients.

The most common side effects of taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET are nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and diarrhoea. Talk to your doctor if any of the side effects gets worsen.

  • Prevents and manage infections of the bladder, kidney and other parts of the urinary tract

How NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET Works

NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET effectively manages and manages urinary tract infection by killing bacteria present in the urethra, bladder, and/or kidneys. It mainly acts through disrupting the production of genetic material present in the bacterial cell.

How to use NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET

Take NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET with a glass of water and do not crush or chew it. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and the severity of infection. NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET should always be taken with food or milk for effective working and to avoid stomach upset.

Side Effects Of NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET

Common

  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • loss of appetite
  • diarrhoea

Uncommon

  • acute pulmonary reaction syndrome (sudden onset of fever, chills, cough, body pain, and shortness of breath)
  • sub-acute pulmonary reactions (persistent dry cough, shortness of breath and fever)
  • chronic pulmonary reaction (gradual onset of persistent dry cough and shortness of breath)

Rare

  • loss of consciousness (collapse)
  • anemia (fatigue, skin pallor, shortness of breath, dizziness or fast heartbeat due to damage to bone marrow causing deficiency of the red blood cells)
  • signs of liver failure which may be fatal (yellow coloured skin and eyes along with stomach pain and swelling)

Stop taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • any sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching that affects your whole body
  • fever, chills, cough and shortness of breath (reaction of lung with the medicine within a week or very slowly, mainly in elderly patients)
  • yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (inflammation of the liver causing jaundice)
  • changes in the sense of feeling and using muscles along with headache, extreme mood changes, confusion, weakness, blurred vision (due to affected nerves outside the spinal cord), which may be severe and permanent in some cases
  • severe headaches (raised pressure in the skull)
  • severe reduction in blood cells which results in weakness, bruising or more instance of infections
  • blue or purple coloration of the skin (cyanosis causing low oxygen levels in the blood)
  • signs of cutaneous vasculitis (fever, flu, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, blood in your stool, skin lesions and weakness)
  • signs of autoimmune hepatitis (jaundice, fatigue, abdominal pain, joint pain and swelling)

How To Manage Side Effects

Diarrhea

Drink lots of fluids such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

Loss Of Appetite

Eat when you feel hungry. Eat smaller meals frequently than usual. Snack only when you're hungry. Eat a nutritious snack which is rich in calories and protein such as dried fruit and nuts.  

Nausea And Vomiting

Take NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

Pregnancy

NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use during labour or delivery because of the possibility that use at this stage may harm the baby. It can be used with caution in pregnant women or are planning to have a baby. However, consult your doctor before taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET.

Breastfeeding

NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET should be used with caution for breastfeeding women and should be avoided particularly for infant with known or suspected with erythrocyte enzyme deficiency (including G6PD deficiency) as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET.

Driving and Using Machines

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET.   

Alcohol

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET because it might make you dizzier.  

Kidney

NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with kidney disease that severely affects the function of kidneys. It should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET.

Liver

NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET.

Allergy

Others

NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • are suffering from a blood disorder called porphyria (build-up of certain chemicals related to red blood cell that affects skin and nerve function)
  • are deficient in an enzyme called g6pd (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) that causes in abdomen or back pain, fatigue, dark urine, pallor, or yellow skin and eyes

Before taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

  • have diabetes (high blood sugar)
  • have anaemia (a decrease in red blood cells that causes pale skin, weakness and breathlessness)
  • are suffering from any illness causing severe weakness
  • lack of vitamin B (especially that results in fatigue, mouth sores, diarrhoea, and depression)
  • have abnormal electrolyte levels in your blood

Interactions

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:  

  • medicines used in the management of indigestion (such as antacids like magnesium trisilicate)  
  • medicines used to manage gout (Ex. probenecid or sulfinpyrazone)  
  • medicines which slow the passage of food through the stomach (Ex. atropine, hyoscine)   
  • medicines used to manage raised pressure in the eye known as glaucoma (such as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors Ex. acetazolamide)
  • medicines which makes the urine less acidic (Ex. potassium citrate mixture)
  • medicines used in the management of bacterial infections (Ex. ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, gemifloxacin, besifloxacin)  
  • oral contraceptive such as ethinyl estradiol (medicine used in the management of pregnancy)
  • typhoid vaccine (medicine given for the management of typhoid)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of NIFNEXT SR 100MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are gastric irritation, nausea and vomiting.
