Introduction About NAM COLD FX TABLET

NAM COLD FX TABLET is a combination of Fexofenadine, Paracetamol and Phenylephrine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamines, Analgesics and Antipyretics and Nasal decongestants. It is used to manage Rhinopharyngitis (inflammation of nasal and pharyngeal mucosa. Symptoms include runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, fever and sore throat), Rhinitis (inflammation of nasal mucosa. Symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, watery eyes, itching of the nose or throat) with deviated nasal symptoms and Tonsillitis (inflammation of tonsils causing fever, sore throat, difficulty in swallowing and painful lymph nodes in neck).

Fexofenadine is an Antihistamine and blocks the binding of histamine (responsible for allergic reactions such as nasal congestion, runny nose) to Histamine H1receptors, thus managing allergic reactions while  Paracetamol is an Analgesics and Antipyretics acts mainly in the brain by increasing the pain threshold by inhibiting COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes which are involved in prostaglandins production (responsible for pain) and also acts on the heat-regulating centres of the hypothalamus resulting in peripheral vasodilation, sweating and loss of body heat. Thus, decreasing pain and fever and Phenylephrine is a Nasal decongestant works by acting on alpha 1-adrenergic receptors in the arterioles of the nasal mucosa to produce constriction, this leads to decreased oedema and increased drainage of the sinus cavities, thus relieves nasal congestion.

Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice consumption while taking NAM COLD FX TABLET as it may lead to unwanted effects. NAM COLD FX TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. Contact your doctor before taking. NAM COLD FX TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung disease, kidney disease, heart diseases, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, fits. Contact your doctor before taking. NAM COLD FX TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnancy. Contact your doctor before taking. NAM COLD FX TABLET should be used with caution in breast feeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Contact your doctor before taking. NAM COLD FX TABLET should be used with caution in children. Contact your doctor before taking. NAM COLD FX TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years or above. Contact your doctor before taking. The most common side effects of this medicine are headache, vomiting, diarrhoea, otitis media, insomnia, restlessness and palpitations. How to use NAM COLD FX TABLET

Take NAM COLD FX TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

How To Manage Side Effects

Vomiting:

Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Contact your doctor if vomiting did not improve.

Headache:

Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if headache worsens.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if diarrhoea did not improve.

Kidney

NAM COLD FX TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Contact your doctor before taking.

Liver

NAM COLD FX TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. Contact your doctor before taking.

Allergy

Do not take NAM COLD FX TABLET if you are allergic to Fexofenadine, Paracetamol and Phenylephrine, or to other ingredients of this medicine.

Lungs

NAM COLD FX TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung disease. Contact your doctor before taking.

Heart Disease

NAM COLD FX TABLET should be used with caution in patients with high blood pressure, heart disease. Contact your doctor before taking.

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking NAM COLD FX TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

• anticoagulant drugs Ex. warfarin (medicines used to manage blood clots)
• metoclopramide or domperidone (medicines used for managing nausea and vomiting)
• Ex. Citalopram, fluoxetine, amitriptyline (medicines used for depression)
• narcotic analgesics Ex. hydromorphone (medicines used for severe pain)
• chloramphenicol, rifampicin, erythromycin (medicines used to manage bacterial infections)
• anticonvulsant agents Ex. carbamazepine, phenytoin, lamotrigine (medicines used to manage fits)
• probenecid (medicines used to manage gout)
• cholestyramine (medicines used to manage high cholesterol levels in blood)
• zidovudine (medicines used for HIV infection)
• antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide (medicines used to manage acidity, heart burn)
• salicylamide (medicines used for fever and pain),
• barbiturates Ex. pentobarbital (to manage mental disorders and epilepsy)
• isoniazid (medicines used to manage tuberculosis)
• St John’s wort (medicines used for depression)
• imatinib (medicines used to manage cancer)
• monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) Ex. selegiline (medicines used to manage depression and parkinson’s disease)
• salbutamol (medicines used to manage asthma)
• methyldopa, reserpine (medicines used for high blood pressure)
• veratrum alkaloids (medicines used for decreasing blood pressure)
• ketoconazole (medicines used for fungal infections)

B. Drug-Food interaction:

Avoid consumption of grapefruit juice while taking this medicine as it may lead to unwanted interactions
