Introduction About MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION
MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION contains Moxifloxacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial conjunctivitis and other eye infections.
Bacterial conjunctivitis is the infection of the transparent membrane (conjunctiva) that lines the eyelid and covers the white part of your eyeball. Symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis include pain, discomfort, redness, itching, irritation, and watering of the eyes.
Patients should be advised not to wear contact lenses if they have signs and symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis.
MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION should be used with caution in pregnant women or if you think you may be pregnant and a breastfeeding woman. Consult your doctor before using.
MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION is not recommended for use in newborns and it should be used with caution in children and adolescents. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose depending on your child’s age and body weight.
MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age. The common side effects are eye pain or irritation. Consult your doctor if the above symptoms does not improve.

How MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION Works
MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION works by inhibiting the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV which are required for DNA replication and transcription resulting in cell death. This manages the bacterial cells from dividing and repairing and destroys them.
How to use MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION
Use MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION exactly as directed by your physician. Instil the medicine as advised by the physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose depending on your age, body weight and severity of the infection.
Side Effects Of MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION
Common
- eye pain or irritation
Uncommon
- dryness, itchiness, and redness of the eye
- eye surface inflammation or scarring
- a broken blood vessel in the eye seen as a bright red patch
- abnormal eye sensation, swelling
- headache
- bad taste
Rare
- corneal disorder
- blurred or reduced vision
- inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva
- eye strain or swelling
- vomiting
- nose discomfort
- the feeling of a lump in the throat, pain and throat irritation
- signs of decreased iron in blood pale skin, weakness, cold hands, and feet
- signs of abnormal liver blood tests like yellowing of eyes and skin
Stop using MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, mouth, or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing
- rash or hives, large fluid-filled blisters
- sores and ulceration
How To Manage Side Effects
Vomiting:
Stick to simple meals. Try to Avoid oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks, and drinks. Try to drink liquid slowly along with your meals, or in between meals. Consult your doctor if your symptom is not improving.
Headache:
Apply a hot or cold-water bag on your head. Try to take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee. Massage on the scalp or head with mild pressure. Consult your doctor for advice.
Eye itching or Burning:
Close your eyes and relax for some time. Place an ice pack over the eyes for a few minutes. Avoid watching mobile phones, systems, laptops, or any other light sources which might irritate your eyes. If the symptom persists or worsens, contact your doctor.

Pregnancy
MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus. Consult your doctor before using.
Breastfeeding
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before using.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or handle any machines while using this MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION, since it may cause blurred vision.
Allergy
Do not use MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION if you are allergic to Moxifloxacin or any other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Before using MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION, inform your doctor if you:
- wear contact lens
- have pain or swelling of the tendons (tendinitis)
Use in pediatrics:
MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION is not recommended for use in infants below 1 year of age since safety and effectiveness have not been established in this age group. Consult your doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:

Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally use too much of MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Wash your eyes and rinse it all out with warm water.

Always use this MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION directed by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Wash your hands thoroughly. Gently pull your lower eyelid gently and instil one or two drops of this medicine inside the lower eyelid. Close your eyelid and gently press on the inner corner of your eyelid for 2-3 minutes to manage the drainage of the solution into your nose and throat. If required, repeat the same for the other eye.
Does MOXIZEST OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION cause eye irritation?
