Introduction About MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET

MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET contains Medroxyprogesterone which belongs to the group of medicines called Hormonal medicines. It is used to maintain balance on menstrual cycle and controls abnormal tissue growth in the uterus.

MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver problems, breast cancer, venous thrombosis or arterial thrombosis, porphyria, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, heart attack or stroke.   

MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women as it can affect the developing baby. If you think you are pregnant or planning to have baby or have a history of repeated miscarriage, breastfeeding inform your doctor before taking MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET.

MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents. The most common side effects of taking MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET are headache, nausea, difficulty sleeping, tiredness and hair loss. Ask for your doctor’s advice if any of these worsen or don’t improve.

How MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET Works

MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET works by stopping the production of gonadotropin hormone, which is responsible for maturation of cells in the ovary and the process of releasing mature egg from the ovary (ovulation) to avoid pregnancy. This kind of action also thins the endometrium (uterus lining), which in turn provides relief from unpleasant period symptoms.

How to use MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET

Take MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET with a glass of water and do not chew or crush the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Side Effects Of MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET

Common

  • headache
  • nausea
  • unusual vaginal bleeding or spotting
  • wheezing, difficulty breathing due to allergic reaction
  • feeling depressed, dizzy and nervous
  • difficulty in falling asleep
  • hair loss and acne
  • raised reddish bumps in skin with itching
  • vaginal discharge
  • breast pain and tenderness
  • fever, tiredness and increase in weight

Uncommon

  • excessive hair growth in facial area
  • milky discharge from the breast when not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • fluid retention in legs and ankles

Stop taking MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • severe allergic reaction (signs include wheezing, difficulty breathing, fainting, swelling of the face or tongue, hands and feet, intense itchy skin rash)
  • signs of a blood clot in the lungs (sudden, severe, sharp chest pain, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat)
  • signs of a blood clot in the brain/stroke (unusually severe or long headache, eyesight affected, difficulty in speaking, collapse or faint and any part of your body feels weak or numb)
  • signs of a deep-vein thrombosis (severe pain, tenderness or swelling in your calf, ankle or foot, purple discolouration of the skin of the leg or the skin becomes red and warm to touch)
  • vomiting, yellowing of the skin, eye or nail beds
  • signs of dementia (confusion or memory loss)
  • lumps or change in your breasts
  • increased amount of fat in the upper back, neck, breast and trunk and loss of fat from the legs, arms and face
  • uterine cancer, stroke, heart attack, gallbladder disease, ovarian cancer, high blood pressure and high blood sugar
  • enlargement of benign tumors of the uterus

How To Manage Side Effects

Headache

Drink ample amount of water. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Ask your doctor before taking any medicine for headache.

Nausea And Vomiting

Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily, fried and spicy foods. Do not perform any strenuous activities immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Tiredness

Drink plenty of fluid and eat balanced diet and frequent meals. Do regular minimal exercise and follow regular sleep schedule. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Breastfeeding

MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women atleast for 6 weeks after the baby has been born as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine to know whether you should use an alternative method of feeding your baby.

Driving and Using Machines

Use with Caution

Do not drive or operate machines if you feel dizzy, drowsy or tired while taking MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET.

Kidney

Use with Caution

MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET.

Liver

Allergy

Lungs

Heart Disease

Use In Pediatrics

  • have or had breast cancer in the past
  • have or have had venous thrombosis or arterial thrombosis in the past
  • have porphyria
  • have undiagnosed vaginal bleeding

Before taking MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

  • have epilepsy
  • have migraine headaches
  • have diabetes
  • have depression
  • have gallstones
  • have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
  • have hearing problems          
  • are very overweight
  • have relatives who have had blood clots
  • are unable to move for long periods of time
  • have a serious injury or have undergone a major surgery or going to have an operation
  • have high blood calcium level

Interactions

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • aminoglutethimide (used to manage cushing’s syndrome)
  • warfarin (used to manage blood clotting)
  • medicines used to manage convulsions/fits (Ex. phenobarbital, phenytoin and carbamazepine)
  •  medicines used in HIV management (Ex. ritonavir, nelfinavir, nevirapine, and efavirenz)
  •  medicines for managing bacterial infections (Ex. rifampicin and rifabutin)
  •  St. john’s wort (used to manage depression)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of MEDOLIN 10MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, seizures and trouble breathing.
