Introduction About INMETH SUPPOSITORIES
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES contains Indomethacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID). It is used to relieve pain caused by certain conditions like moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (inflammatory disorder affecting many joints, including hands and feet characterised by painful swelling), ankylosing spondylitis (pain and stiffness in backbone).
It also manages osteoarthritis (pain and swelling of joints), shoulder pain (bursitis and/or tendinitis), acute gouty arthritis (a form of arthritis characterised by severe pain, redness and tenderness in joints.)
Avoid alcohol consumption while using INMETH SUPPOSITORIES as it may increase the risk of ulcer and bleeding in the stomach. INMETH SUPPOSITORIES is not recommended for use in patients before or after heart bypass surgery, having a history of proctitis (anal inflammation), recent rectal bleeding or asthma. INMETH SUPPOSITORIES should be used with caution in patients with kidney, liver, heart failure problems, depression or other psychiatric disturbances, epilepsy, parkinsonism, high blood pressure, history of peptic ulcer disease and/or GI bleeding.
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES is not recommended for use in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, safety data in the first two trimester has not been established yet. INMETH SUPPOSITORIES should be used with caution if you are breast-feeding. It is not suitable for use in children below 14years of age and should be used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effect of this medicine is a mild headache. Contact your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Uses Of INMETH SUPPOSITORIES
It is used to reduce pain caused by conditions such as:
- moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis including acute flares of chronic disease
- moderate to severe ankylosing spondylitis and osteoarthritis
- shoulder pain (bursitis and/or tendinitis)
- acute gouty arthritis (severe pain, redness, and tenderness in joints)
How INMETH SUPPOSITORIES Works
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES works by managing the function of enzyme cyclooxygenase-1 and 2 which leads to the stopping of prostaglandins synthesis (chemical substances responsible for pain & inflammation) that results in reduced inflammatory reactions and relief from pain.
How to use INMETH SUPPOSITORIES
Always use INMETH SUPPOSITORIES as directed by your physician. It is for rectal use only and is not to be taken orally or through the vagina. Push the suppository into the rectum with your finger.
Lie down for a few minutes and avoid having a bowel movement for at least an hour. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition.
Side Effects Of INMETH SUPPOSITORIES

- ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
- difficulty having a bowel movement
- discouragement, feeling sad or empty
- a general feeling of discomfort or illness

- bloated or full feeling
- excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
- feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
- involuntary muscle movements
- light-headedness
- sensation of spinning
- tiredness
- trouble sleeping
- trouble with speaking
Stop using INMETH SUPPOSITORIES and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs and symptoms of hepatotoxicity (nausea, fatigue, lethargy, pruritus, diarrhoea, jaundice, right upper quadrant tenderness, and “flu-like” symptoms)
- serious skin reaction (rashes), itching
- chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, or slurring of speech
- anaphylactic reaction (e.g., difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat)
- more tired or weaker than usual
- nausea, diarrhoea
- your skin or eyes look yellow
- indigestion or stomach pain
- vomit blood
- blood in your bowel movement, or it is black and sticky like tar
- unusual weight gain
- swelling of the arms, legs, hands, and feet
How To Manage Side Effects
Headache:
Apply a hot or cold-water bag on your head. Try to rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee. Massage on the scalp or head with mild pressure. Consult your doctor for advice.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES is not recommended for use in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy as it increases the risk of premature closure of the foetal ductus arteriosus.
Safety data in the first two trimesters has not been established yet. Consult your doctor for advice before using.

Breastfeeding
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES should be used with caution if you are breast-feeding as it may pass through the breast milk. Benefit and risk ratio will be assessed by your doctor. Consult your doctor for advice.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines while using INMETH SUPPOSITORIES as it may cause drowsiness, dizziness, lightheaded or less alert. Consult your doctor before using INMETH SUPPOSITORIES.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while using INMETH SUPPOSITORIES as it may increase the risk of ulcers and bleeding in the stomach.

Kidney
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES should be used with caution in patients having kidney problems. Consult your doctor for advice.

Liver
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES should be used with caution in patients having liver problems. Consult your doctor for advice.

Allergy
Do not use INMETH SUPPOSITORIES if you are allergic to Indomethacin or other similar NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen) or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Lungs
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES is not recommended for use in patients with asthma. Consult your doctor for advice.

Heart Disease
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES is not recommended for use in patients before and after heart bypass surgery.
It should be used with caution in patients with high blood pressure or heart failure. Consult your doctor for advice.
Others
INMETH SUPPOSITORIES is not recommended for use if you:
- have a history of proctitis (anal inflammation) or recent rectal bleeding
Before using INMETH SUPPOSITORIES inform your doctor if you:

Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before using INMETH SUPPOSITORIES, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used for blood thinning (Ex. warfarin)
- antiplatelet agents (Ex. aspirin)
- pemetrexed, methotrexate (to manage cancer)
- other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as aspirin, or diflunisal)
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure such as beta blockers (Ex. atenolol), ACE inhibitors (Ex. lisinopril), angiotensin II receptor antagonists (Ex. valsartan), hydralazine or nifedipine, cardiac glycosides (used to manage heart failure) Ex. digoxin
- medicines used to manage depression, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (Ex. fluoxetine)
- lithium (medicine used to manage some mental health problems)
- medicines used to increase urine output (Ex. furosemide, triamterene)
- cyclosporin (medicine used to manage graft rejection after transplant)
- probenecid (a medicine used to manage gout)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally uses too much of INMETH SUPPOSITORIES, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Signs and symptoms of overdose include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
