Introduction About IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM

IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM contains Imiquimod which belongs to the group of medicines called Immune response modifiers. IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM is used to manage actinic keratosis, which is a precancerous condition that occurs as a rough, scaly patch on the skin due to years of sun exposure in affected individuals.

IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Imiquimod. It is also not recommended for use in patients with an unhealed management site (which is under management with other medicines).

Before applying IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM, inform your doctor if you have previously used the same medicine, and/or suffering from autoimmune disorders (disease where body’s own defense system attacks its own cells) or abnormal blood count.

IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM should be used with caution during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether the medicine gets secreted through breast milk.

IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 60 years and above) after consulting the doctor.

The most common side effects of applying IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM are itchy skin, pain, burning/ irritation (at the applied site), redness of skin, headache, nausea, muscle/joint pain, and/or tiredness. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

How IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM Works

IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM acts by increasing the activity of body’s immune system which leads to inflammatory cell infiltration and death of diseased tissue thus managing actinic keratosis and its associated symptoms in affected individuals.

How to use IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM

Apply IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM as advised by your physician. It is for external use only. Wash hands carefully before and after applying it. Do not cover the area with bandages or dressings after you have applied it. Do not shower or bath for the duration for which the medicine should be applied. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Side Effects Of IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM

Common

  • itchy skin
  • pain, burning or irritation at the applied site
  • redness of skin
  • headache
  • anorexia (eating disorder)
  • nausea
  • muscle/joint pain
  • tiredness

Uncommon

  • changes at the application site such as bleeding, inflammation, discharge, sensitivity, swelling, scabbing, scarring, ulceration, and/or feeling warmth/discomfort
  • inflammation of lining of nose, stuffy nose
  • flu/flu-like symptoms
  • depression
  • eye irritation
  • swelling of eyelid
  • throat pain
  • diarrhea
  • swelling of the face
  • ulcers
  • pain in extremity
  • fever
  • weakness
  • shivering

Rare

Stop applying IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • signs of serious skin reactions such as skin lesions/spots associated with itching, fever, overall ill feeling, achy joints, vision problems, burning, painful/itchy eyes, and/or mouth sores
  • if you feel unwell or have bad skin reaction
  • signs of low blood counts such as developing bruise more easily or feeling fatigued

How To Manage Side Effects

Rashes:

Do not scratch the affected area. Wear protective clothing while going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Headache:

If IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of applying IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then consult and inform your doctor.

Nausea:

Take IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM with/just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich/spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, and drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if the condition worsens.

Tiredness:

Make sure you take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Try to apply IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM at a time when you can sit down (or lie down) when the symptoms are at their worst. Avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel well.

Pregnancy

IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM should be used with caution during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before applying the medicine.  

Breastfeeding

IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether the medicine gets secreted through breast milk. Consult your doctor before applying the medicine.

Driving and Using Machines

IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM is unlikely to affect your ability to drive/operate machines.  

Allergy

Do not apply IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM if you are allergic to Imiquimod, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Others

IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM is not recommended for use if you:

  • have an unhealed management site from previous management

Before applying IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM, inform your doctor if you:

  • have previously used the same medicine
  • suffer from autoimmune disorders (disease where body’s own defense system attacks its own cells)
  • had undergone organ transplantation
  • have abnormal blood count
  • are a smoker

Use in Pediatrics:

Interactions

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Inform your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else applies too much of IMIQUAD 12.5MG CREAM or accidentally swallows it, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
