Introduction About GATIVAC P EYE DROPS

GATIVAC P EYE DROPS is a combination of Gatifloxacin and Prednisolone which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics and Corticosteroids respectively. It is used for post-operative inflammation and any other ocular inflammation associated with infection.

Ocular steroids are indicated in inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea and anterior segment of the globe where the inherent risk of steroid use in certain infective conjunctivitis is accepted to obtain a diminution in oedema and inflammation. They are also indicated in chronic anterior uveitis and corneal injury from chemical radiation or thermal burns or penetration of foreign bodies.

Before using GATIVAC P EYE DROPS inform your doctor if you have heart disease, liver or kidney disease. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctors before using GATIVAC P EYE DROPS.

The most common side effects are blurred vision, mild eye irritation, eye redness. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects worsen or persists for a longer duration.

How GATIVAC P EYE DROPS Works

Gatifloxacin works by stopping the action of a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This manages the bacterial cells from dividing and repairing, thereby working against them. Prednisolone works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies.

How to use GATIVAC P EYE DROPS

Use GATIVAC P EYE DROPS as directed by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Check the label for directions before use. Wash your hands before using this medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition.

Side Effects Of GATIVAC P EYE DROPS

Common

  • red, puffy, or droopy eyelids
  • dry or watery eyes
  • headache
  • skin itching or rash

Rare

Stop using and contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

  • allergic reaction symptoms such as hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • tunnel vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights
  • blisters or small white/yellow patches on the surface of your eye
  • pain behind your eyes
  • eye infection symptoms such as swelling, redness, severe discomfort, crusting or drainage

How To Manage Side Effects

Headache:  

Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if required. Do not consume alcohol. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

GATIVAC P EYE DROPS is not recommended for use, if you have:

  • an eye infection (including herpes simplex)

  • glaucoma
