Introduction About GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL contains Ganciclovir, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antivirals. It is used to manage an infection in the eye called acute herpetic keratitis in adults aged 18 years and over.
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL is not recommended for use if you have any pre-existing cytopenia or a history of cytopenic reactions to other drugs, chemicals or irradiation. Before using GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL, inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver or heart diseases. Remove contact lenses before using this medicine and put them back 15 minutes later.
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL is not recommended for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women. GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL is not recommended for use by children. The most common side effects of using GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL are burning or brief tingling sensations, eye irritation and blurred vision. Contact your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL manages the multiplication of viruses in human cells. This stops the virus from producing new viruses and clears up your infection.
How to use GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL
Use this medicine as advised by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL
Common
- burning or brief tingling sensations
- eye irritation
- blurred vision
- inflammation of the surface of the eye
- redness of the conjunctiva
Rare
Stop using and contact your immediately if you have:
- abnormal eye sensation, stinging or pain in the eye
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL should not be used during pregnancy. It should use a local method of contraception for three months. Consult your doctor before using it.

Breastfeeding
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL should not be used during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before using it.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines if you have visual disturbances, blurred vision or eyesight problems.

Kidney
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before using it.

Liver
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before using it.

Allergy
Do not use GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL if you are allergic to Ganciclovir.

Heart Disease
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL should be used with caution in patients with heart disease. Consult your doctor before using it.
Others
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL is not recommended for use if you have:
- eye irritation, especially if you have dry eyes or disorders of the cornea (the clear layer at the front of the eye)
Use in Pediatrics:
Do not give this GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL to children and adolescents under the age of 18. Consult your doctor before using it.
Use in Geriatrics:
GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before using it.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- probenecid (manages gout)
- trimethoprim/sulpha, dapsone, pentamidine, amphotericin B, imipenem/cilastatin or zidovudine
- vincristine, vinblastine, adriamycin or flucytosine
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally uses too much of GANCIGEL OPHTHALMIC GEL, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
