Uses Of GALVUS MET 50/850MG TABLET

How GALVUS MET 50/850MG TABLET Works

GALVUS MET TABLET contains a combination of metformin and vildagliptin. Metformin makes the body more sensitive to insulin (a hormone involved in glucose metabolism). This helps our body cells utilize more of the circulating blood glucose. Additionally, it can stop glucose production by the liver and reduce its absorption in the body.

Vildagliptin controls blood sugar levels by blocking the actions of an enzyme called dipeptidyl peptidase (DPP)-4 that indirectly increases insulin secretion in the body. Collectively, this medicine controls blood sugar levels in patients with type II diabetes.

How to use GALVUS MET 50/850MG TABLET

  • The dose is usually prescribed by your doctor based on your blood sugar levels. Typically, it is taken once or twice a day with meals

FAQs About GALVUS MET 50/850MG TABLET

Q: What is GALVUS MET 50/850MG TABLET used for?

A: GALVUS MET 50/850MG TABLET is a combination medication containing vildagliptin and metformin. It is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus by controlling blood sugar levels. Vildagliptin works by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which increases insulin release and decreases glucagon production, thereby improving blood sugar control. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and enhances insulin sensitivity. Together, they provide effective glycemic control when diet, exercise, or other oral antidiabetics are insufficient.

Q: Is Galvus Met safe for kidneys?

A: Galvus Met should be used cautiously in patients with kidney issues. Metformin can pose a risk of lactic acidosis (a rare but serious complication) in individuals with significant kidney impairment. Vildagliptin is generally well-tolerated, but it also requires dose adjustments in moderate kidney impairment. Kidney function should be regularly monitored during treatment, especially in older adults or those with a history of kidney disease. If kidney function declines, the doctor may adjust the dosage or discontinue the medication.

Q: Is Galvus Met better than metformin?

A: Galvus Met combines metformin with vildagliptin, making it more effective for individuals who need dual therapy to control blood sugar levels. While metformin is the first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes, Galvus Met may offer better glycemic control by targeting different mechanisms. However, the choice depends on the patient’s specific condition, tolerance, and treatment goals. Metformin alone may suffice for newly diagnosed patients or those with mild hyperglycemia, while Galvus Met may be better for those requiring additional blood sugar control.

Q: What are the side effects of Galvus Met Tablet?

A: The most common side effects of taking GALVUS MET TABLET are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, low blood sugar, and diarrhea. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

Q: Does Galvus Met increase weight?

A: Galvus Met is generally weight-neutral, meaning it does not cause significant weight gain or loss. Vildagliptin does not promote weight gain, and metformin may even help with slight weight reduction by improving insulin sensitivity. This makes Galvus Met a good option for overweight or obese individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Q: Can Galvus Met cure diabetes?

A: Galvus Met does not cure diabetes; it helps manage blood sugar levels effectively. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that requires long-term lifestyle changes, medications, and regular monitoring. Galvus Met can help prevent complications and improve quality of life when used consistently alongside diet and exercise.

Q: Does Galvus Met cause acidity?

A: Galvus Met may cause gastrointestinal symptoms, including acidity or a feeling of heartburn, primarily due to metformin. Taking the medication with food or switching to an extended-release formulation may reduce these symptoms. Persistent acidity should be discussed with a doctor to rule out other causes or adjust the treatment.

Q: Can Galvus Met cause constipation?

A: Constipation is not a common side effect of Galvus Met, but it may occur in some individuals. Metformin more commonly causes diarrhea or loose stools, while vildagliptin does not typically affect bowel movements. If constipation occurs, it is usually mild and can be managed with dietary changes, increased water intake, or fiber supplements. Persistent constipation should be evaluated by a doctor.
