Introduction About FOLIJON CAPSULE
FOLIJON CAPSULE is a combination of Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), Folic Acid, Methylcobalamin, and Pyridoxine which belongs to the group of medicines called Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamins, respectively. It is used to provide nourishment to the foetus for its healthy development during pregnancy.
FOLIJON CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you are allergic to folic acid, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine. It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from unmanageed vitamin B12 deficiency (such as certain anaemias and in lifelong vegetarians), pernicious anaemia (a form of anaemia caused by lack of vitamin B12), and/or malignant (cancerous) disease.
Before taking FOLIJON CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have liver disease (such as chronic liver disease). The medicine is advised to be used with caution in pregnant & breastfeeding women.
FOLIJON CAPSULE should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 60 years and above) after consulting the doctor.
The most common side effects associated with the use of FOLIJON CAPSULE are fever, itching, rash, tingling/numbness sensation in joint, shortness of breath, and/or rapid weight gain. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

How FOLIJON CAPSULE Works
FOLIJON CAPSULE helps in foetal development by providing nourishment to the foetus where docosahexaenoic acid optimizes brain and retinal maturation in developing foetus, folic acid helps in promoting growth in foetus by acting as a co-factor for the inactivation of bone damaging amino acids, methylcobalamin manages occurrence of cardiac disease in developing foetus by lowering homocysteine (an amino acid that cause cardiovascular disease on excess production), and pyridoxine helps in the ideal functioning of brain and nervous system in the developing foetus by playing an essential role in the synthesis of myelin sheath (protective covering on the nerves) and certain neurotransmitters (chemical messengers that help in nerve conduction) thus managing brain impairment and providing nourishment to the developing foetus during pregnancy.
How to use FOLIJON CAPSULE
Take FOLIJON CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of FOLIJON CAPSULE
Common
- fever
- itching
- rash
- tingling/numbness sensation in joint
- shortness of breath
- rapid weight gain
- signs of polycythaemia (increased number of red blood cells in body) such as headache, blurred vision, tiredness
- signs of hypokalaemia (low potassium level in blood) such as constipation, heart palpitations, extreme tiredness
Uncommon
- indigestion
- diarrhoea
- nausea
- belching
- unpleasant taste
Rare
- signs of allergic(hypersensitivity) reaction such as itchy/red skin, and rash.
- signs of severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic reaction) such as swelling (typically of the face, lips, tongue, or throat), difficulty breathing or swallowing, shock (cold sweaty skin, weak pulse, dry mouth, dilated pupils)
- loss of appetite
- bloating
- flatulence
Stop taking FOLIJON CAPSULE and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- increased risks of bleeding
How To Manage Side Effects
Itching
Avoid itching harshly or scratching the site of itching. Keep moisturising the itchy skin regularly. Use gentle creams, lotions, or gels that soothe, and cool the skin. Avoid using soaps on the itchy skin. Wear the loose clothing.
Nausea:
Try to take FOLIJON CAPSULE with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if symptom gets worse.
Indigestion:
Try to have smaller and more frequent meals and drink slowly. Reduce consumption of coffee, cola, tea, or alcohol and lose weight if you are obese. Try to avoid smoking and don’t have rich, fatty or spicy foods. Consult your doctor and inform if the symptom does not improve.
Diarrhea:
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Consult your doctor and inform them if the symptom gets worse.

Pregnancy
FOLIJON CAPSULE should be used with caution if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Consult and inform your doctor before taking the medicine.
Breastfeeding
FOLIJON CAPSULE should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking FOLIJON CAPSULE.
Kidney
FOLIJON CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients undergoing kidney dialysis. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Liver
FOLIJON CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with advanced chronic liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Allergy
FOLIJON CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you are allergic to folic acid, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Others
FOLIJON CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you:
- have an unmanageed vitamin B12 deficiency such as in certain anaemias and lifelong vegetarians
- have pernicious anaemia (a type of anaemia caused due to lack of vitamin B12 ) or any other condition caused by vitamin B12 deficiency
- have a malignant (cancerous) disease
Before taking FOLIJON CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:
- have a folate dependent tumour
- have any disease that reduces the amount of vitamin B12 in the body
- have intolerance to certain sugars such as lactose
Use in Paediatrics
FOLIJON CAPSULE should be used with caution in children and adolescents (below 18 years). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Use in Geriatrics
FOLIJON CAPSULE should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 60 years). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Interactions
A.Drug-Drug Interactions
Before taking FOLIJON CAPSULE, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- antiepileptics (medicines used to manage epilepsy) Ex. phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, sodium valproate, carbamazepine
- antibacterials (medicines used to manage infections) Ex. trimethoprim, chloramphenicol, cotrimoxazole
- sulfasalazine (medicine used to manage ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, or rheumatoid arthritis)
- methotrexate (medicines used to manage Crohn’s disease, psoriasis, or rheumatoid arthritis)
- lithium (medicine used to manage mental illness)
- triamterene (medicine used to manage high blood pressure)
- medicines used to put you to sleep for an operation or to relieve pain while you are awake (Ex. butorphanol)
- aspirin (medicine used to manage pain relief or to thin the blood)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of FOLIJON CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
