Introduction About FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION
FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION is used to manage adult patients with advanced hormone dependent prostate cancer. It contains Degarelix which belongs to the group of medicines called Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone antagonist or GnRH blocker. FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION works by blocking messages from a part of the brain called the hypothalamus that tells the pituitary gland to produce luteinising hormone. Luteinising hormone tells the testicles to produce testosterone. So degarelix stops the testicles making testosterone. Prostate cancer depends on testosterone to grow. Hormone therapy blocks or lowers the amount of testosterone in the body.
FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients have low bone density, glucose intolerance, diabetes mellitus, liver, kidney or cardiovascular diseases. FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant women. It is not recommended for use in children and adolescents. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

The most common side effects after receiving FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION are hot flushes and inflammation around the injection site, dizziness, weight gain, headache, diarrhoea. How FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION Works
FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION contains Degarelix which works by blocking messages from a part of the brain called the hypothalamus that tells the pituitary gland to produce luteinising hormone. Luteinising hormone tells the testicles to produce testosterone. So degarelix stops the testicles making testosterone.
How to use FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION
FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION will be administered by a healthcare professional only. It is for subcutaneous administration only and is not to be administered intravenously. FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION is for subcutaneous administration to the abdominal region only. As with other medicines administered by subcutaneous injection, the injection site should vary periodically. Injections should be given in areas of the abdomen that will not be exposed to pressure. (e.g., not close to waistband or belt nor close to the ribs. It should be reconstituted before use.

- hot flushes and inflammation around the injection site

How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhea
Drink plenty of water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Don’t take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea however, contact your doctor if your diarrhoea worsens.
Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Lie down until the dizziness is gone and get up slowly. Move slowly and carefully, do not hurry. Get adequate rest. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, and medicine, however, consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Headache
Drink lots of water and avoid skipping meals. Try to be relaxed and avoid stress. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary and consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before receiving FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- Antiarrhythmic agents (Ex. Quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone and sotalol)
- Opiate (narcotic) analgesics (Ex. Methadone)
- Antibiotics (Ex. Moxifloxacin)
- Antipsychotics
Overdosage:
There is no clinical experience with the effects of an acute overdose with FIRMAGON 80MG INJECTION. In the event of an overdose the patient should be monitored and appropriate supportive treatment should be given, if considered necessary.
