Introduction About EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET

EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET contains Amoxicillin which belongs to the group of medicines called Penicillins. It is used to manage wide range of infections caused by gram positive and gram-negative bacteria which includes respiratory infection (such as otitis media), sinus infection, gynaecological infection, urinary tract infection and other serious infections (such as septicaemia).

EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from mononucleosis (glandular fever caused by Epstein Barr Virus) and/or certain infections (especially urinary tract infection, a severe infection of ear/nose/throat) caused by the non-susceptible pathogen.

Before taking EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET, inform your doctor if you have a history of seizures/fits, meningeal disorders, diarrhoea, kidney problems (such as renal impairment) and/or liver problems (such as hepatic impairment).

EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women only if it is clearly necessary. EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET should be used with caution in children and adolescents (from 6 months to 18 years of age) and elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

The most common side effects of taking EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET are skin rash, nausea and diarrhoea. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.

How EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET Works

EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET works by inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins that are responsible for bacterial cell wall formation. This leads to the activation of autolytic enzymes in the bacterial cell wall which causes its destruction thus managing the spread of infection in affected individuals.

How to use EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET

Tablet, Capsule:

Take EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Dispersible Tablet:

Take EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET as advised by your physician. Disperse EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET in the specified quantity of water as mentioned on the label. Consume the mixture immediately after reconstitution. Your doctor will recommend the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

 

Side Effects Of EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET

Common

  • diarrhoea
  • nausea
  • skin rash

Uncommon

  • vomiting
  • urticaria (red itchy welts)
  • itching

Rare

  • signs of prolonged prothrombin time such as bleeding/bruising, bleeding gums and/or nosebleeds

Stop taking EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • inflammation of the colon with diarrhoea (sometimes containing blood), pain and fever
  • signs of allergic reactions such as skin itching or rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, body or breathing difficulties
  • signs of an anaphylactic reaction (life-threating allergic reaction) such as red itchy welts, itchy skin, low blood pressure and dizziness
  • signs of acute generalized exanthemas pustulosis (severe drug reaction) such as red skin

How To Manage Side Effects

Nausea or vomiting:

Take this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food.

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine without consulting your physician. Contact your doctor if the symptom does not get better.

Skin rash:

Avoid hot showers as hot water can irritate the skin. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Regularly use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. If the symptoms do not improve, contact your doctor.

Itchy Skin:

Pat or tap your skin instead of scratching it. Hold a moist towel to cool your skin. Wear loose clothes and avoid tight clothes or clothes made from wool or synthetic fabrics. Avoid using perfumed soaps, deodorants or moisturizers and use a skin softener regularly.

Driving and Using Machines

Do not drive or operate any machines if you have allergic reactions, dizziness and convulsions after taking EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET.

Kidney

EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET should be taken with caution in patients undergoing haemodialysis and in patients suffering from kidney problems such as renal impairment. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver

EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with liver problems such as hepatic impairment. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy

Do not take EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET if you are allergic to Amoxicillin, penicillin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Others

EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

Interactions

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • medicines used to manage gout (Ex. probenecid, allopurinol)
  • antiperistaltic medicines (Ex. difenoxin, diphenoxylate, loperamide)
  • medicines used for managing blood clots (Ex. warfarin, acenocoumarol)
  • medicines used to manage infections caused by bacteria including pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections such as tetracycline (Ex. doxycycline, minocycline)
  • methotrexate (used to manage certain types of cancer)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of EVOXIL DT 250 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fluid & electrolyte imbalance (with associated signs such as confusion, irritability, tiredness and/or headache), crystalluria (with associated signs such as pain while urination, fever and/or cloudy urine) and/or convulsions.
