What is EIREF?
- EIREF contains Itopride which belongs to a group of gut motility enhancing medicines (gastrointestinal prokinetics) and Pantoprazole belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which works by reducing the production of acid in the stomach
What EIREF is used for?
It is used in the management of,
- functional dyspepsia or non-ulcer dyspepsia (chronic gastritis) characterized by sensation of bloating, early satiety, upper abdominal pain or discomfort, anorexia, heartburn, nausea or vomiting
- stomach and duodenal ulcers
- Zollinger-Ellison-Syndrome and other conditions producing too much acid in the stomach

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
- are allergic to Itopride, pantoprazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- are allergic to other proton pump inhibitor medicines
- have heart failure or stroke
- have epilepsy
- have breast cancer
- have a stomach tumour
- have liver problems
- have difficulty in swallowing or pain when swallowing
- have reduced vitamin B12
- have low levels of magnesium, potassium or calcium levels in the blood
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine should not be used in children and adolescents
- This medicine may cause drowsiness, numbness, or dyskinesia’s; therefore, you should avoid driving and operating machines
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
- medicines with a narrow therapeutic index such as digoxin
- sustained release or enteric-coated formulations
- anti-ulcer drugs like cimetidine, ranitidine
- ketoconazole, itraconazole and posaconazole (used to manage fungal infections)
- erlotinib (used for certain types of cancer)
- warfarin and phenprocoumon used to manage or prevent blood clots
- atazanavir used to manage HIV-infection
- methotrexate (used to manage rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and cancer)
- fluvoxamine (used to manage depression and other psychiatric diseases)
- rifampicin (used to manage infections)
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Take this medicine whole with little amount of water
- The dose may be reduced according to the patient's age and symptoms
If you take more EIREF
- If you take more EIREF, contact your doctor immediately
If you forget to take EIREF
- If you have forgotten to take a dose, take it immediately when you remember and continue the management as usual
- If it is almost time to take the next dose, you should not take the forgotten dose
If you stop taking EIREF
- Do not stop taking this medicine unless told by your doctor
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
- benign polyps in the stomach
- headache, dizziness, diarrhoea, feeling sick, vomiting, bloating and flatulence (wind), constipation, dry mouth, abdominal pain and discomfort
- skin rash, exanthema, eruption, itching, feeling exhausted or generally unwell, sleep disorders, fracture in the hip, wrist or spine
- an increase in liver enzymes
- distortion or complete lack of the sense of taste
- disturbances in vision such as blurred vision, hives
- pain in the joints, muscle pains, weight changes, raised body temperature, high fever
- swelling of the extremities (peripheral oedema)
- depression
- breast enlargement in males
- an increase in bilirubin, increased fat levels in blood
- a reduction in the number of blood platelets, which may cause you to bleed or bruise more than normal
- a reduction in the number of white blood cells, which may lead to more frequent infections coexisting abnormal reduction in the number of red and white blood cells, as well as platelets
- disorientation
- Keep out of reach of children
- Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
