Introduction About DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION

DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION is a combination of Cefpodoxime and Clavulanic acid which belongs to the group of medicines called Cephalosporins and Beta-lactamase inhibitors, respectively. DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION is used in children to manage mild to moderate infections such as otitis media (middle ear infection), nose & throat infections, respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, reproductive tract infection, and skin infection.

DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in children allergic to Cefpodoxime, Clavulanic acid, and/or other cephalosporin group of antibiotics. It is also not recommended for use in children suffering from galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency (lactose intolerance), and glucose-galactose malabsorption (condition marked by body’s inability to absorb glucose and galactose sugars).

Before administering DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if the child has previous history of hypersensitivity reactions to medicines such as cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, penicillin, and/or have kidney problems (such as mild/moderate/severe renal impairment), and liver problems (such as hepatic insufficiency/impairment).

DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women since it is used only in children (aged below 12 years). It is also not recommended for use in elderly patients.

The most common side effects of administering DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION in child are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, vaginal fungal infections, and/or vulvovaginal infections. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

How to use DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION

Dry Syrup/ Oral Suspension:

Administer DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION as advised by your physician. Shake the dry powder loose and reconstitute the dry powder in required quantity of water before consuming. Your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of management for your child depending on child’s age, body weight and disease condition.

Syrup:

Side Effects Of DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION

Common

  • Diarrhoea, vomiting
  • Diaper rash/fungal skin rash  
  • Non-fungal skin rash

Uncommon

  • Localized/generalized abdominal pain, abdominal cramp, headache, weakness, fever, fungal infection
  • Nausea, altered taste, anorexia (eating disorder), dry mouth, oral mucositis, pseudomembranous colitis (inflammation of colon)
  • Thrombocythemia (low platelet count)
  • Muscle spasm/pain, hallucination, nervousness, excessive sleepiness
  • Bleeding from nose, stuffy nose
  • Fungal infection of skin and nail, red itchy welts, acne, exfoliative dermatitis (severe inflammation of skin), rash

Rare

Stop administering DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION and consult your doctor immediately in case the child experiences:

  • Signs of allergic reactions such as runny nose, sneezing, breathlessness, itchy skin, and/or raised rash
  • Seizures

How To Manage Side Effects

Diarrhea

Ask the child to drink lots of fluids such as water or fruit juices so that the child is sufficiently hydrated. Do not administer any medicine to manage the condition on your own. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve or becomes worse.

Headache

Ask the child to take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Headaches usually go away after first week of administration of DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then inform your doctor.

Nausea And Vomiting

Have the child take this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack. Let the child stick to simple meals and avoid having rich or spicy food.

  • Antacids (medicines used to relieve indigestion and heartburn) Ex. sodium bicarbonate, aluminium hydroxide
  • Probenecid (used to manage gout)
  • Nephrotoxic drugs (medicines that can damage kidney via various mechanisms) Ex. aminoglycosides, amphotericin B

If the child or anyone else accidentally take too much of DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION, consult and inform your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. The symptoms of overdosage of DOXCEF CV SUSPENSION may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, and diarrhoea.
