Introduction About DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET contains Dexchlorpheniramine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamines. It is used to manage perennial, seasonal allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, mild uncomplicated allergic skin manifestations of urticaria and angioedema (swelling underneath skin).

Allergic rhinitis is a diagnosis associated with a group of symptoms affecting the nose caused by irritation and inflammation of the nasal membrane. These symptoms occur when you breathe in something you are allergic to, such as dust, pollen or animal dander. Symptoms are sneezing, itchiness and a blocked or runny nose.

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET may provide relief from itching caused by skin conditions such as allergic eczema, pruritus ani, pruritus vulvae, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, insect bites, dermographism and medication reactions (serum sickness).

Before taking this medicine DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart disease, glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye), enlargement of prostrate, hyperthyroidism or seizures.

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET should be used in pregnant women only if clearly needed and should not be taken during last 3 months of pregnancy. It should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it passes through breast milk. Consult with your doctor before taking DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET.

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age. It should be used with caution in elderly patients above 60 years of age. Ask for your doctor’s advice before taking DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET.

The common side effects of taking DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET are drowsiness, headache, blurred vision and dry mouth. Consult with your doctor if any of these worsen or doesn’t improve.

How DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET Works

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET acts by inhibiting the effects of histamine, a naturally occurring chemical in the body which is responsible for causing the allergic symptoms.

How to use DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET

Always take this DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the medicine as a whole, do not crush or chew. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose and frequency depending on your age, body weight and severity of infection.

Side Effects Of DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET

Common

  • disturbance in concentrating
  • un-coordination
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • blurred vision
  • nausea, vomiting
  • dry mouth
  • fatigue
  • drowsiness
  • sedation (sleepiness)

Rare

Stop taking DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following side effects:

  • chest pain
  • sudden signs of allergy such as rash, hives, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing
  • convulsions, fits or seizures
  • coma
  • fast, pounding or irregular heartbeats
  • tiredness, headache, dizziness, spinning sensation, with yellowing of the skin and/or eyes
  • unable or difficulty passing urine, passing urine more often than usual
  • hallucinations
  • tingling or numbness in the hands or feet, also known as 'pins and needles'

How To Manage Side Effects

Nausea:

Take this medicine with or after meals. Stick to simple meals while taking this medicine. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Do not take any medication on your own. Ask for your doctor’s advice if nausea doesn’t improve.

Headache:

Try to take rest and don’t involve yourself in exertive activities. Rest in a quiet and dark room. Apply a pain-relieving balm on your forehead. Ask for your doctor’s advice if headache doesn’t improve

Vomiting:

Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, oily or sweet foods. Avoid carbonated drinks. Ask for your doctor’s advice if vomiting doesn’t improve.

Dizziness:

Lie or sit down immediately when you feel dizzy. If you're feeling severe episode of spinning(vertigo), lie in a dark and quite place with eyes closed. Try to avoid vehicle driving. Discuss with your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Dry mouth:

Dry mouth can be managed by chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free hard candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Sip water at regular intervals of time. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can be drying. Consult your physician for advice.

Driving and Using Machines

Do not drive or handle any machines if you experience drowsiness after taking DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET.

Alcohol

Do not consume alcohol while taking DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET as it may cause drowsiness.

Kidney

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

Liver

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

Allergy

Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Dexchlorpheniramine or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Heart Disease

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart problems. Consult your doctor for advice.

Others

Before taking DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET, tell your doctor if you have:

  • narrow-angle glaucoma
  • stenosing peptic ulcer
  • enlarged prostate gland
  • bladder neck obstruction
  • pyloroduodenal obstruction
  • hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • hyperthyroidism
  • seizure

Use in Pediatrics:

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age. Consult with your child’s doctor before giving it to your child.

Use in Geriatrics:

DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (above 60 years of age). The elderly may experience paradoxical excitation, dizziness, sedation, hypotension, central nervous system side effects and confusion. Consult your doctor for advice.

Interactions

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET, inform your physician if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • zolpidem, triazolam, midazolam, phenobarbital (used to induce sleep)
  • opioid analgesics such as tramadol, fentanyl (used to manage severe pain)
  • amitriptyline, imipramine, isocarboxazid (used to manage depression)
  • oral anticoagulants such as heparin (used to manage blood clot)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of DEXOZEST 2MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage include central nervous system depression, apnoea, arrhythmias, cardiovascular problem, cyanosis, diminished mental alertness, sedation, convulsions, hallucinations, insomnia, tremors, ataxia, blurred vision, dizziness, hypotension and tinnitus. Symptoms of overdose in children are dry mouth, fixed dilated pupils, flushing, gastrointestinal symptoms and hyperthermia.
