Introduction About CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP
CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP contains Cephalexin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections of the respiratory tract (Ex. tonsillitis, pharyngitis and bronchitis), middle ear (otitis media), skin and soft tissue, bone and joints, reproductive organs and urinary tract (cystitis, prostatitis).
CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP can also be used to manage dental infections. Bacterial infections are usually characterized by fever, extreme tiredness, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, groin or elsewhere, headache, nausea or vomiting.
Before taking CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems, a history of severe or prolonged diarrhoea or severe skin rash, peeling, blistering or mouth sores after taking CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP or other antibiotics. Inform your doctor if you are due for a blood or urine test as CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP may interfere with these tests.
CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women so, contact your doctor before taking it. CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP can be used in children, however, your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of the medicine for your child.
The most common side effects of taking CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion and stomach-ache. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms are getting worse.

CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that shows bactericidal action (kills the bacteria) by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell wall.
How to use CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP
Take CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP as advised by your physician. Turn the bottle upside down and tap to loosen the powder. Then add 60 ml water in two portions, shake after each addition until all the powder is in suspension. Shake the medicine well before use. Dose and duration will be decided by your physician depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

- transient hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice (yellowish discolouration of skin and eyes)
Stop taking CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- sudden wheeziness, trouble breathing, swollen eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching (particularly affecting your whole body)
- serious skin peeling or blistering
- severe diarrhoea
- acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (red scaly widespread rash with bumps under the skin and blisters along with fever at the beginning of the management)

How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea:
Take CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Vomiting:
Get adequate rest. Drink lots of fluids, especially water. Have small sips if you feel sick. Eat when you feel like it – you don't need to eat or avoid any specific foods. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Diarrhea:
Have enough fluids like water or fruit juice to maintain hydration. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to eat small meals in small breaks. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Indigestion:
Keep your head and shoulders raised up while laying down so that stomach acid won’t come up. Avoid tea, coffee, cola, alcohol or eating 3 to 4 hours before going to sleep. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Breastfeeding

Driving and Using Machines
CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP should not affect your ability to drive or operate machines.
Kidney
CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney diseases. Contact your doctor before taking it.
Liver
CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in patients having liver impairment. Contact your doctor before taking it.
Allergy
Do not take CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP if you are allergic to cephalexin, other cephalosporins, penicillins or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Before taking CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP tell your doctor if you:
- have penicillin sensitivity
- have a history of severe or prolonged diarrhoea during or after taking CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP
- have a history of severe skin rash or peeling, blistering or mouth sores after taking CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP
- are due for a blood or urine test
Use in Paediatrics:
CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP can be used for children, however, your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of the medicine. Hence, contact your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in Geriatrics:
CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in elderly patients (65 years and older), as they are more likely to have reduced kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- other medicines used to manage bacterial infections (Ex. gentamicin, tobramycin, cefuroxime, colistin)
- water tablets used to manage water retention (Ex. furosemide, ethacrynic acid)
- probenecid (used to manage gout)
- metformin (used to manage diabetes)
- medicines used to manage leukaemia (Ex. daunorubicin, cytarabine)
- medicines used for blood thinning (Ex. rivaroxaban, dabigatran)
- live typhoid vaccine
- medicines used to manage pregnancy (Ex. estradiol, progestin)
- polymyxin (used to manage fungal infections)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of CEPHAXIN 125 DRY SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, distress in upper abdomen, diarrhoea and blood in urine.
