BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION contains Ampicillin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, respiratory tract (bronchus, lungs), urinary tract, genital tract, stomach, blood, brain and skin or soft tissues.
It can also be used to manage typhoid fever, meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain), peritonitis (inflammation of the lining of the stomach) and endocarditis (inflammation of the lining of the heart and its valves).
BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION should be used under medical supervision. Do not stop receiving BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION even if you feel better during the midway of the therapy. Failing to complete the full course of the therapy or skipping doses in between the therapy may not result in adequate infection control.
During therapy with BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION, your doctor will periodically monitor your health condition through several blood tests/urine tests to access the improvement in your condition and to reduce the risk of unwanted side effects. BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION is suitable for use in adults and in children (aged 10 years or older; weighing 20 kg or more).

BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION is a bactericidal agent. It kills the susceptible bacteria by blocking the bacterial cell wall synthesis that is essential for the bacterial cell to survive. This action destroys the susceptible bacteria, manage their further growth and multiplication and reduce the severity of the infection.
How to use BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION
BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously) or into the muscles (intramuscularly).
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.
Do not miss a dose or stop receiving BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION without consulting your doctor as it may worsen your condition.

- stomach pain with uncontrollable watery diarrhoea, feeling weak and fever
- severe skin reactions (such as widespread skin rash with blistering and peeling of skin around the mouth, face and genitals)
- signs of liver problems (such as yellowing of skin and whites of the eye, pale faeces, dark urine, persistent nausea, loss of appetite, unusual tiredness)
- unusual bleeding or bruising
- fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, repeated infections
- signs of kidney problems (such as passing low urine, passing urine at night, tiredness, breathlessness, pale skin, fever, skin rash, nausea, pains)
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea or vomiting:
Take BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Please consult your doctor immediately if you experience severe nausea and vomiting.
Diarrhoea:
Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. If your diarrhea worsens, contact your doctor immediately.

A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before receiving BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- oral contraceptives (birth control pills) Ex. drospirenone, ethinyl Estradiol
- allopurinol, sulfinpyrazone or probenecid (medicines used to manage gout)
- other antibiotics (used to manage bacterial infections) such as tetracycline, erythromycin, and chloramphenicol
- anticoagulants such as warfarin or phenindione
Overdosage:
BIOCILIN 1000 INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. Symptoms of overdosage might include gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
