Introduction About AZILKIND 40 TABLET

AZILKIND 40 TABLET contains Azilsartan which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-hypertensives. It is used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). This medicine used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.

High blood pressure (hypertension) is the force that a person’s blood exerts against the walls of their blood vessels. This pressure depends on the resistance of the blood vessels and how hard the heart has to work.

Along with the management with AZILKIND 40 TABLET your doctor might ask you to make some lifestyle changes such as exercising often, limit salt intake, managing stress, weight management and quit alcohol and smoking. Prior to the management your doctor might want you take some blood tests to assess your condition.

Before taking AZILKIND 40 TABLET inform your doctor if you have kidney, heart or liver disease, diabetes, primary hyperaldosteronism (disease of adrenal gland), aortic or mitral valve stenosis (narrowing of valves in heart, and obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (abnormal increase in the thickness of heart muscles).

AZILKIND 40 TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnancy and breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking.

AZILKIND 40 TABLET should not be given to children and adolescents (under 18 years of age) without prior consultations.

The most common side effects are dizziness, diarrhoea, nausea, feeling tired, muscle spasms and low blood pressure. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects worsens with time.

How AZILKIND 40 TABLET Works

AZILKIND 40 TABLET helps in the management of high blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels and making it easier for the heart to pump blood. Azilsartan selectively inhibits angiotensin II from binding to the angiotensin II type-1 receptor (AT1). This receptor inhibition provides the antihypertensive activity of azilsartan because it blocks the pressor effects of angiotensin II. AZILKIND 40 TABLET blocks this effect which in turn lowers down the blood pressure.

How to use AZILKIND 40 TABLET

Take AZILKIND 40 TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

How To Manage Side Effects

Nausea or Vomiting:

Take this medicine with, or just after meals with plenty of water. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy

AZILKIND 40 TABLET is not recommended in early pregnancy and more than 3 months pregnant, as it may cause serious harm to the baby. Consult your doctor before taking.

Breastfeeding

AZILKIND 40 TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Driving and Using Machines

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy and tired after taking AZILKIND 40 TABLET.

Alcohol

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking AZILKIND 40 TABLET because it might make you feel dizzier and light-headed. Consult your doctor for advice.

Kidney

AZILKIND 40 TABLET is not recommended for patients with impaired kidney function. It should be taken with caution in patients who are on dialysis or had renal transplant. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Liver

AZILKIND 40 TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

Allergy

Do not take AZILKIND 40 TABLET if you are allergic to Azilsartan or to any other ingredients of this medicine.

Heart Disease

AZILKIND 40 TABLET should be taken with caution in patients having heart disease (heart failure, or recent heart attack), ever had a stroke, mitral valve stenosis (narrowing of valves in heart), obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (abnormal increase in the thickness of heart muscles). Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Interactions

A. Drug–Drug Interactions:

Before taking AZILKIND 40 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

• lithium (used for mental health problems)
• non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (medicines to relieve pain and inflammation) Ex. ibuprofen, diclofenac, celecoxib, acetylsalicylic acid
• potassium supplements, potassium-sparing medicines or salt substitutes containing potassium (medicines that increase the amount of potassium in blood)
• heparin (used for thinning the blood)
• medicines used to reduce blood pressure (Ex. aliskiren, enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril or valsartan, telmisartan, irbesartan)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of AZILKIND 40 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage are feeling faint and dizzy.

What if I forget to take a dose of AZILKIND 40 TABLET?

No. AZILKIND 40 TABLET does not causes hyperkalemia. However, you must inform your doctor if you have raised levels of potassium in your blood or are on medications that causes the increase of potassium.

Can AZILKIND 40 TABLET lead to kidney problems?

Yes. AZILKIND 40 TABLET can lead to worsening of kidney problems. It is contraindicated in patients having impaired kidney function and should be used with caution in patients having kidney problems like kidney stones. Consult your doctor before taking.

Can AZILKIND 40 TABLET be stopped suddenly?

If you stop taking AZILKIND 40 TABLET, your blood pressure may rise again. Hence, you should not stop taking AZILKIND 40 TABLET before consulting your doctor.
