Introduction About ALOJA 25MG TABLET

ALOJA 25MG TABLET contains Alogliptin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetics. It is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults along with diet and exercise. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic medical condition in which the body does not make enough insulin or produced insulin does not work well. When this happens, glucose level rises in the blood and can lead to serious medical problems like heart or kidney disease and blindness. Symptoms include excessive urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, and blurred vision.    

ALOJA 25MG TABLET is used when the blood sugar levels cannot be adequately controlled by diet, exercise and other oral anti-diabetic medicines. It must be taken together with other anti-diabetic medicines prescribed by your doctor such as glipizide, tolbutamide, glibenclamide, metformin, pioglitazone and insulin.    

ALOJA 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver, kidney and heart problems. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine. ALOJA 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age) due to lack of safety and effectiveness and it should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.   

Along management with ALOJA 25MG TABLET, follow regular exercise and diet plan as advised by your doctor to achieve better glucose control. The most common side effects of taking ALOJA 25MG TABLET are low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), cold like symptoms such as sore throat, stuffy or blocked nose, rash, itchy skin and headache. How ALOJA 25MG TABLET Works

ALOJA 25MG TABLET works by increasing the amount of insulin produced by the body which effectively controls your blood sugar. Also, it reduces the amount of substance called glucagon which is produced by the pancreas (glucagon causes liver to produce more sugar) resulting in reduced levels of sugar in your blood.

How to use ALOJA 25MG TABLET

Take ALOJA 25MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Side Effects Of ALOJA 25MG TABLET

Common

  • symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) such as trembling, sweating, anxiety, blurred vision, tingling lips, paleness, mood change or confusion, shaking or feeling jittery, hunger, headache, fast heartbeat, dizziness
  • cold like symptoms (upper respiratory tract infection) such as sore throat, stuffy or blocked nose or runny nose
  • rash
  • itchy skin
  • headache
  • stomach pain
  • diarrhoea
  • indigestion
  • heartburn

Stop taking ALOJA 25MG TABLET and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • signs of serious allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips, throat and other areas on skin, difficulty swallowing or breathing, raised, red areas on skin (hives), skin rash, itching, flaking, or peeling, feeling of heat especially affecting the scalp, mouth, throat, palms of hands and soles of feet (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • signs of liver problems (such as nausea or vomiting, stomach pain, unusual or unexplained tiredness, loss of appetite, dark urine, yellowing of your skin or the white of your eyes)
  • severe joint pain
  • bullous pemphigoid (blisters or breakdown of the outer layer of your skin (erosion))
  • signs of inflamed pancreas (pancreatitis) (such as stomach pain, vomiting)
  • heart failure symptoms such as increasing shortness of breath or trouble breathing, especially when you lie down, swelling especially in the feet, ankles or legs, an unusually fast increase in weight

How To Manage Side Effects

Diarrhea

Drink lot of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Headache

Take rest and relax. Drink sufficient amount of fluids. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the forehead if necessary. Do not consume alcohol and avoid skipping meals. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Indigestion

Eat smaller meals but take them frequently. Chew the food properly before swallowing. Avoid eating high fat foods and try to avoid consumption of alcohol and caffeine. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Skin rash Or Itching

Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Stomach Pain

Try to take rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

  • type 1 diabetes (body does not produce insulin)
  • diabetic ketoacidosis (diabetes complication where the body produces excess blood acids (ketones)). Symptoms include excessive thirst, frequent urination, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting and rapid weight loss
  • or had a disease of the pancreas

Interactions

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking ALOJA 25MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • sulphonyl urea (Ex. glipizide, tolbutamide, glibenclamide), insulin (medicines used to manage diabetes mellitus)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ALOJA 25MG TABLET consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
