This Sterimed Thoracic Drainage Catheter is an angled PVC tube designed for the removal of secretions from the thoracic cavity following cardio-thoracic surgery. Made from non-toxic, medical-grade PVC, it is intended for short-term, non-operative chest drainage. The catheter is engineered to facilitate the drainage of substances like air, fluid, or blood from the pleural space, which can help in lung re-expansion and the restoration of normal breathing function. Its angled design makes it suitable for specific surgical requirements.

Made from Medical-Grade PVC: The catheter is constructed from non-toxic, patient-safe PVC material. Angled Design: This model features a right-angle design, which can be suitable for particular surgical needs and drainage from deeper sites of the pleural cavity. Smooth Distal End: It has a smooth and rounded open distal end with large eyes to facilitate maximum drainage. Depth Markings: The catheter is marked at every 2 cm from the last eye to help ascertain the depth of placement during insertion. Tapered Connector: The proximal end is fitted with a taper tongue connector, designed to provide a better forceps grip and allow for smooth penetration.

Q: What is a thoracic drainage catheter used for?

A: A thoracic drainage catheter is a flexible tube inserted into the chest to drain air, blood, or other fluids from the space around the lungs, which can accumulate after cardio-thoracic surgery. This helps the lungs to expand properly.

Q: What does 'FR-20' signify?

A: The 'FR' stands for French scale, which measures the outer diameter of the catheter. A size of 20 FR indicates a larger catheter, typically used for procedures that require significant drainage.

Q: What is the catheter made from?

A: This catheter is made from non-toxic, medical-grade PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which is a soft and kink-resistant material.

Q: Are there markings on the catheter to assist with placement?

A: Yes, the catheter has depth markings every 2 cm from the last eyelet to help medical professionals accurately ascertain the depth of placement during insertion.

Q: Is this product intended for single use?

A: Yes, this thoracic drainage catheter is a single-use, sterile device and should be discarded after one use to ensure patient safety and prevent contamination.

Facilitates Post-Operative Drainage: It is used for post-operative drainage after cardio-thoracic surgery to remove air and fluid from the pleural space. Aids Lung Function: By draining the pleural cavity, the catheter helps alleviate pressure on the lungs, which assists in proper lung expansion and restores normal breathing. Designed for Secure Placement: The catheter includes depth markings for accurate placement and a proximal connector for a firm grip, ensuring it can be securely positioned.

This device is intended for use by a trained and registered healthcare professional. Select the appropriate size of the catheter. Open the package from the peel-open area to remove the device. Make a separate stab incision a couple of inches away from the wound area. Insert forceps through the stab incision towards the wound area and firmly hold the catheter's tongue connector. Gently pull the catheter from the wound area out through the stab hole. Place the part of the catheter with multiple eyes inside the wound area and then close the wound. The depth of placement can be measured using the graduation marks at 2 cm intervals. Suture the catheter close to the skin to hold it in place. Cut the tongue plug and insert the plain end of the spare connector into the proximal end of the catheter. Connect the stopper end of the connector to the drainage tube of an underwater seal drainage system.

For single-patient use only; do not reuse, re-process, or re-sterilize. To be used by a trained healthcare professional only. Do not use if the package is open or damaged, or after the expiry date. Consult a healthcare professional if the patient has a known sensitivity or allergy to PVC. Contraindications for use may include refractory coagulopathy, the presence of a diaphragmatic hernia, and scarring in the pleural space. Discard the used device in a container meant for infectious waste. Any serious incident that occurs in relation to the device should be reported to the manufacturer and the local competent authority.

Store in its original box in a cool and dry place, between 5°C and 45°C. Keep away from direct and indirect sources of light and heat. The product is sterile, pyrogen-free, latex-free, and phthalate-free. It is individually packed in a sterile, peelable pouch.
