Uses of Ursodeoxycholic Acid

Ursodeoxycholic Acid is used to treat primary biliary cirrhosis (damage of bile ducts in liver leading to build up of bile), to dissolve small gallstones and to treat cystic fibrosis.

Therapeutic Category

Ursodeoxycholic Acid: Hepatoprotective agents.

How Ursodeoxycholic Acid works

Ursodeoxycholic Acid works by dissolving gall stones by reducing the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver and promoting the secretion of bile acids into the gallbladder. This helps to prevent the formation of new gall stones and gradually dissolves the existing ones. It helps to increase bile flow to the liver and assists in the elimination of toxic substances and reduces the accumulation of bile acids in liver cells. It also modulates immune response and reduces liver injury and maintains liver health.
