Uses of Rivaroxaban
Rivaroxaban is used to treat and prevent blood clots in the veins of your legs (deep vein thrombosis) and in the blood vessels of your lungs (pulmonary embolism). It is used to prevent blood clots in brain (stroke) and other blood vessels in your body in adults with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (a form of irregular heart rhythm). It is also used to prevent blood clots in adults who have undergone hip or knee replacement surgery.

How Rivaroxaban works
Rivaroxaban works by competitively inhibiting factor Xa (a blood clotting factor) and thus reducing the tendency of the blood to form clots.
Common side effects of Rivaroxaban
- bleeding in the stomach or intestine, urogenital bleeding (including blood in the urine and heavy menstrual bleeding), nosebleed, bleeding in the gum
- bleeding into the eye (including from the whites of the eyes)
- hematoma, bruising (bleeding into tissue or a cavity of the body)
- coughing up blood
- bleeding from or under the skin
- bleeding after an operation
- oozing of blood or fluid from surgical injury
- pain and swelling in the limbs
- fever
- stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea
- low blood pressure (feeling dizzy or fainting when standing up)
- weakness, tiredness, headache, dizziness
- rash, itchy skin

Consult your doctor:
- in case of accidental overdosage
- if you experience bleeding inside brain (headache, one-sided weakness, vomiting, seizures, decreased level of consciousness, neck stiffness)
- if you experience long or excessive bleeding
- if you experience abnormal weakness, tiredness, paleness, dizziness, unexplained swelling, breathlessness, chest pain
- if you experience frequent nose bleeds, abnormal bleeding from the gums
- if you experience menstrual bleeding that is heavier than normal or vaginal bleeding
- if you experience bleeding that is severe or uncontrollable
- if you experience red, pink or brown urine, bright red or black tar-like stools, cough up blood or blood clots; vomit blood or your vomit looks like “coffee grounds”
- if you experience pain, swelling, or new drainage at wound sites
- if you experience spinal or epidural blood clots
- if you experience back pain
- if you experience muscle weakness (legs and feet)
- if you experience tingling
- if you experience bowel or bladder incontinence
