Uses of Pitavastatin
Pitavastatin is used to treat high blood cholesterol levels (hyperlipidaemia) in adults and in children (aged 6 years or above) along with diet and lifestyle changes.

How Pitavastatin works
Pitavastatin is a lipid lowering medicine. It effectively reduces the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the body by blocking the action of an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase which is involved in the production of cholesterol.
Common side effects of Pitavastatin
- pain in joints and muscles
- gastrointestinal problems (such as constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion)
- nausea
- headache

Consult your doctor:
- in case of accidental overdosage
- if you experience signs of allergic reaction (such as difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, problems in swallowing, severe itching of the skin with raised lumps)
- if you experience unexplained muscle pain or weakness, especially if accompanied by fever, weakness, or reddish-brown urine
- if you experience breathing problems which includes persistent cough and/or shortness of breath or fever
- if you experience liver problems which may lead to yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
- if you experience pancreatitis characterized by severe pain in the abdomen and back
