Uses of Mometasone

Mometasone is used in the treatment of psoriasis (itchy, scaly rash on skin) and atopic dermatitis (itchy inflammation of skin). It is used to treat scalp psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. It is also used to treat the symptoms of hay fever, perennial rhinitis, and nasal polyps (swelling and irritation which causes sneezing, itching and a blocked or runny nose).

Therapeutic Category

Mometasone: Corticosteroids

How Mometasone works

Mometasone works by reducing the inflammation of skin and nose by blocking the production of a chemical messenger which is responsible for causing red, swollen and itchy skin and runny nose that occurs due to an allergic reaction. Thus helps to relive discomfort associated with various inflammatory conditions.

  • headache, sneezing
  • nose bleeds

  • ulcers in nose
  • respiratory tract infection
  • itchy, dry, red skin

When to consult your doctor

Consult your doctor:

  • if psoriasis gets worse or experience a burning sensation of skin
  • if you experience blurred vision

Health Tips for Mometasone

  • Limit sun exposure: Mometasone may increase the sensitivity of your skin to sunlight. Whenever possible, avoid prolonged sun exposure and protect the treated area from excessive sun exposure by wearing protective clothing, using sunscreen, and seeking shade
