Molnupiravir reduces the risk of developing severe illness in mild to moderate COVID-19 disease, where molnupiravir works by converting into a metabolite that gets incorporated into the genetic material of the new virus that results in impaired ability of the virus to multiply/replicate its own copies leading to reduced viral load in the lungs thus preventing the risk of developing severe illness in the affected individuals.
