 Uses of Verapamil
Verapamil is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), manages and prevents angina (chest pain). It is also used to treat and prevent certain types of abnormal heart rhythm.

How Verapamil works
Verapamil works by blocking the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. As a result, it relaxes blood vessels which leads to lowering of high blood pressure and angina (chest pain). It also increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart while also relaxing the heart muscle and useful in treating abnormal heartbeats.

- symptoms of an allergic reaction such as unexpected wheezing, difficulty breathing, swelling of the mouth, lips or tongue or severe skin rash
- skin reactions with blistering or ulceration of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
