How Meropenem+Sulbactam works
Meropenem is a powerful antibiotic. It destroys the susceptible bacteria by interfering with the bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is effective against a wide range of bacteria (including both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria).
Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It sustains the anti-bacterial activity of meropenem against the toxic bacterial proteins (such as beta lactamases). Collectively, these actions destroy the susceptible bacteria, prevent their further growth and multiplication which in turn reduces the severity of the infection.
