Uses of Meclizine

Meclizine is used to prevent and provide relief from nausea, dizziness and vomiting associated with motion sickness (illness caused by motion during travel). It is also used to treat vertigo (spinning sensation) associated with diseases affecting the inner ear.

How Meclizine works

Meclizine works by suppressing vestibular stimulation by controlling the activity of hair cells in the inner ear and therefore helpful in treating vertigo symptoms like dizziness and spinning sensation. It also reduces the activity of central nervous system (by anticholinergic effect) and reduces symptoms like nausea and vomiting sensation associated with motion sickness.

Health Tips for Meclizine

• Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience drowsiness after taking Meclizine
• Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Meclizine, as it may increase the risk of sedation
• Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, especially if you experience dry mouth
• Meclizine may affect the body’s ability to regulate temperature. Be cautious in hot weather and avoid overheating. Drink fluids and stay in a cool environment
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, before taking Meclizine
• Maintain a healthy lifestyle by engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a balanced diet, and managing stress
• If you are using Meclizine to manage motion sickness, take it as directed before travelling. Avoid reading or focusing on screens during travels, as this can worsen symptoms
• Inform your doctor if you have glaucoma, urinary problems, enlarged prostate, or certain other conditions, before using this medication
