Daptomycin is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues, blood and tissues covering the heart. It is suitable for use both in adults and in children (aged between 1-17 years).

How Daptomycin works

Daptomycin is a powerful antibacterial agent. It kills the susceptible bacteria by disrupting the bacterial cell wall. This prevents further bacterial growth and reduces the severity of the infection.

Common side effects of Daptomycin

• fungal infections (such as thrush)
• urinary tract infection
• low RBC count in blood (anaemia)
• headache, dizziness, anxiety, difficulty in sleeping
• fever, weakness
• high or low blood pressure
• constipation, stomach pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, bloating
• abdominal swelling or bloating
• skin rash or itching
• injection site reactions (such as pain, redness or itching)
• arm pain, leg pain
• higher levels of liver enzymes or creatine phosphokinase (CPK)

Consult your doctor:

• In case of accidental overdosage
• If you experience signs of severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
• If you experience severe muscle weakness, tenderness or pain
• If you experience severe persistent diarrhea with blood or mucus
• If you experience signs of eosinophilic pneumonia (such as difficulty in breathing, new or worsening cough, or new or worsening fever)
• If you experience severe skin reactions (such as skin rash with appears as red raised fluid filled spots under the armpits, chest or groin, blisters in mouth or genitals with fever)

• While taking daptomycin, it's best to avoid consuming alcohol. Alcohol may interact with the medication and lead to adverse effects
• Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking, as deflazacort can interact with certain drugs
• Daptomycin is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast feeding women
