Ivabradine is used in adult patients to treat symptomatic stable angina pectoris (chest pain) and chronic heart failure.

How Ivabradine works

Ivabradine works by reducing the heart rate which leads to low oxygen requirement of the heart resulting in improved blood supply throughout the body (with each heartbeat) thus providing relief from angina pectoris and preventing the occurrence of chronic heart failure in affected individuals.

Common side effects of Ivabradine

• brief moments of increased brightness (due to sudden changes in light intensity)
• slow heart rate
• signs of atrial fibrillation (irregular rapid contraction of heart) such as chest pain, pounding heartbeat, tiredness
• uncontrolled blood pressure
• headache, dizziness, blurred vision
